As a new Pandora RBE owner asking a lot of newbie questions I am going to start giving them Topics that announce them as such and hopefully help others find what I am sure are common questions (now or later).
OK, Angstrom announced that the 2008 apps are going going gone. So a double question here. I am tired of not being able to type 'gedit /filename.whatever' from the command-line. nano works but sometimes I would like to be back in something I can jump between multiple instances to cut-paste.
I have the gedit.pnd but as with my vlc.pnd.... there is no way I can run them from the commandline and feed arguments. Otherwise I could setup a mime-type that clicking an AVI opens it in VLC.
So, here's todays question. Note that I am running the OS from an SD card and not the NAND.
How do I install gedit or vlc from the repository?
which version? (http://www.angstrom-.../?pkgname=gedit)
And how would it be different if I wanted to download the tar and also the tar of each dependancy into a temp directory?
And vlc is here (http://www.angstrom-...po/?pkgname=vlc). Too many versions for a newbie to decide what to do.
I would also like to be able to install a web-browser that could be set as a default app for html and actually WORK when clicking on an html on my OP.
Thanks.
