So Many Pandora Handheld For Sale

There are so many Pandora Handheld for sale on eBay at the moment I wonder why there are so many for sale seeing there are less than 4000 units in the world?

Because Pandora isn't for everyone? Because (dare I say it?) it requires a modicum of intelligence and the willingness to apply oneself to using it? Some people bought it thinking it's another GP2X or Canoe, and it quite obviously isn't.

I agree with you it's definitely not a plug and play machine but it could have been made that way and I think it should have been I hope someone does bring out a decent open sores plug and machine with a 5" to 7" screen

The Pandora's plenty plug-and-play. You just need to know which plug to use.

There's also a possibility that there are Pandora's for sale because there are only 4,000 in the world. If there is enough demand, a person (who, say, Pre-ordered their unit) could probably sell their Pandora for more than they payed for it.

Additionally, I don't understand the mentality that the Pandora isn't "Plug-And-Play". My GP2X Was usually not "Plug-And-Play", because regardless of device, the company producing the system (or the developers) can't legally give you, say, BIOs or ROMs to use in an emulator.

In fact, I would argue the Pandora is more of a Plug-And-Play device that my GP2X was. I can remove my SD card while my device is still on, load a PND onto it, and when I put the SD card back in it loads it within seconds. Unless you are trying to use an emulator, than you need to load your ROMs, and maybe your BIOs onto the card too. If a emulator is special (Not many are anymore), than just follow the documentation. It's really not that complicated.

If you've used a computer for a few years and know how to get around Finder/Explorer/File Manager, than you shouldn't have any problems with using a Pandora. Not unless you're trying to do something complicated, like telling your unit to take screenshots when keys are pressed, that it becomes an adventure.

The Pandora is Open Source, it does have a good sized screen and it's a decent device. It comes with an optional Desktop or MiniMenu, which is a lot like Open2x was for the GP2X.

3 Consoles isn't a lot. As has been said before people's priorities change. Not everyone wan't expensive electronics for the sake of having it. I'm sure there's plenty of people years ago who preordered but don't really need a device like it anymore.

One of them is a re-listing, one is a one-nubber, one is from someone who no longer plays games and one is from someone who ordered it 2-3 years ago and when it arrived found it lacking in power. That's one auction in the 7 you posted that is selling because it's not good enough.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here, but you're failing spectacularly (as usual) at everything you do :)

Another reason is probably that development has pretty much dried up.

If it weren't for the PSX emu there would basically be no new improvements/releases on emulators.

The fact that there is still no good native GBA, PC engine, Amiga, etc (most are just ported fom the GP2X not using Pandora resolution or features and/or are stuttery Ginge wrapped versions) is pretty telling.

Erm... Have you not noticed the number of games that are coming out? There's some real gems in there - Grim Fandango and Homeworld have only very recently been ported for example, and the repo is filling up with new stuff...

Unless you define the success of the Pandora by its emulation?

this is getting boring. how long do you want to continue this game? are you really that bored that you've got nothing else to do than annoying people with the same threads over and over again?
I'm 100% in agreement with the above statement.

A lot of cheaper alternatives for people who only want to play games
Pandora was powerful 3-4 years ago, now you can get phone with as good / better specs around 150 dollars + a lot of games (android market, iphone market, etc, full speed emulation, etc)
Pandora is still good, however with increasing phone market (with how fast they update phones, prices drop even more after only a few months) a smart phone will meet the requirements they want at a cheaper price

The Software base of the Pandora gets better, I don't see a reason not to love the Pandora. And we are in a exclussive club here, only 3000 or so people in the world have a Pandora. ;)

The main Problem with the Pandora I still see in the slow shipping, I guess this will not change soon, sadly. The other problem is, that the Pandora can't make usage of it's full power due the lack of really good drivers, not really optimized Firmware and no good support of all the Hardware feaures of the OMAP Chipset.
The Pandora could be much more powerfull if the devs could loose the handcuffs, our Handheld is still tied in. Over 600 MHz and SGX Graphics, commercial Handhelds and Smartphons need not even half of these specs to bring incredible Games on screen. So I guess for the future we could see much more good stuff and with good Software, more people will buy the Pandora, far more than selling their Device, of course. ^^ It is only the Software, that makes a Console or Handheld great, Hardware alone means nothing.

If raw power was the only thing that would be true.

The thing is phones all have crap controls for games. That turns all emulators into mostly cool tech demos "wow cool a PSX game on my phone" "I can't really play it but at least it runs smooth".

The issue with the Pandora is mostly the lack of interest from devs for some reason.

I don't see any other device out there that comes close to the Pandora in terms of controls, and the fact that it has a compiler onboard, future-proof'ing it against obsolescence far more than the average iDevice ..

May be the fact that a dev wont have any form of support / feedback from the users if he is not working on an emulator might help to understand.

Beside emulator is probably the hardest stuff to works with, so a dev have to works with "simpler" games before being able to touch the emu's code.
If he get no feedback while in his learning curve, there is a large chance he wont be motivated long enough to reach the skill level requiered to works on emu.

On the other side, the thing you would like to get in these emulator (a better UI) is a boring task for the highest profile here.

Finally I'ld like to point you that in the time-frame you've been here you could have become the best dev here, you just prefered playing emulator and saying the dev are like shit (you know those who have spend months in learning how to code efficiently so _you_ can play their "shitty" emulator).
Peeps like you are _the_ plague of the pandora
