seen a few questions regarding

"should i get a card reader"

the answer is, if you want speed, YES

i have just done a quick test using USB1.1 to copy the "Day of the tentacle" file TENTACLE.001 which is just under 11MB

using the GP32, link cable and cable and PC link host software:
3mins 55 seconds

using a SMC reader/writer.
11 seconds !!! -

When my USB2 reader turns up i'll post the results from that it should be even faster unless the speed limit of the card itself has been hit.

Yrs, the speed of a SMC Reader device will always be faster than the GP32.

However, with the GP32 comes convenience and security. Constantly removing a card from the gp32, putting it in a reader, then taking it out and putting it back in the gp causes wear on the gp, reader and card itself. Cards have been known to fail due to this.

However, PC Link is pants, and know there is much faster versions around. GP32NSE is readonly, but allows upto 340kb/sec from the GP32, which is about 8 times faster.

My own program - Squidgelink, can almost double the writing speed of PC Link. By writing my own PC Link for the GP32, I'm hoping to get even faster.
