I have 59 years of experience in computers.... ( I am so not 17.....)TelcoLou posted on Mar 30 2006 at 08:37 PM said:I'm a tech for "The Phone Company" and I wish I had a dollar for every time some self-proclaimed vendor spouted "I've got XX years in this business, I know about T1s!!!"
I'd have a lot of dollars
... it's a sure sign of stupidity when someone finds the need to show off how many years' of experience they have ... EVERYONE could learn from others, no matter how much you think you know.
I work in tech support and I get that kind of shit all the time.TelcoLou posted on Mar 30 2006 at 06:37 PM said:I'm a tech for "The Phone Company" and I wish I had a dollar for every time some self-proclaimed vendor spouted "I've got XX years in this business, I know about T1s!!!"

yeah, internet connection always screws up so i call tech support and if they bother asking if you use linux they should at least send you to someone who understands that IE isn't on linuxRavnos posted on Mar 30 2006 at 09:34 PM said:I work in tech support and I get that kind of shit all the time.TelcoLou posted on Mar 30 2006 at 06:37 PM said:I'm a tech for "The Phone Company" and I wish I had a dollar for every time some self-proclaimed vendor spouted "I've got XX years in this business, I know about T1s!!!"

Idiot: My connection isn't working!
Me: (after several troubleshooting steps) Have you bypassed your router?
Idiot: Look you son of a bitch, I have XX years of experience! I know it's not my fucking router! Send someone out here to check the lines!
Me: (not wanting to deal with any bullshit) Ok, I'll set up a dispatch.
Two days later
Dispatched technician: Yeah, it was his router.
Me: What a cocksucker.
We never have problems like that. Most of the people who work with me are familiar with Unix because we're all either Linux or Mac users and it's a small company so if you don't know something, one of the other techs will offer to take over from you if he does. On top of that we have a pretty bulletproof troubleshooting procedure for DSL connections, so by the end of the call we're usually pretty sure which side the problem's on. I mean, peoples' connections go down all the time for things that are on our end (or on the telco's end, we lease lines from them) but 9 times out of 10 it's something simple and when you get some self-proclaimed expert on the other end of the line, they HATE to admit it could be their fault.DemonStar55 posted on Mar 30 2006 at 07:54 PM said:yeah, internet connection always screws up so i call tech support and if they bother asking if you use linux they should at least send you to someone who understands that IE isn't on linux
and it usually ends up being their part, like them blocking my connection because I might of been hacked or something.
yeah, I notice when it's my fault and usually figure it out but if I can't I still listen to the tech people and do what I did just before I called, just incase and I'm not an asshole like that incase it is my faultRavnos posted on Mar 30 2006 at 10:05 PM said:We never have problems like that.
