For those that chose UPS to Australia.

Did UPS act as customs agents and sting you extra fees? Thinking of upgrading my shipping from airmail, but I dont want to get stung extra fees along the way.

I got burned years ago by an international courier company buying a gp32 from liksang. I think but am not sure if the minimum cost for something that atracts customs charges to Australia has gone up since then... not sure though.

Also for those that have upgraded their shipping or added items to their order have gbax accepted paypal or credit cards for the extra costs involved?

I chose UPS. I live in Canada and I got charged 50$.

edit: just thought I'd post even though I'm not from Australia. Might be useful info~

Ive used UPS for several purchases from Playasia up to AUD$300 including my GP2X and havent been charged any additional fees by them. Pandora is a bit more than AUD$300 so I dont know if it would trigger a charge?

Yup, looks like it is $1000AUD now. Back in 2003 I think it was around $400AUD.

Looked it up here: http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp

This part concerns me though:
Imported goods with a value of A$1000 or less

* Imported goods arriving by post will be released duty and tax free by Customs for delivery direct to the addressee
*
o except for tobacco, tobacco products (refer to example 4)and alcoholic beverages (refer to example 2) or goods subject to import permit requirements
o
+ in these cases, you will be contacted and notified of the action you must take.
* Imported goods arriving otherwise than by post will require the completion of a Self Assessed Clearance (SAC) declaration before clearance from Customs control
*
o SAC declarations can only be lodged electronically
o
+ no cost recovery charges are imposed by Customs on SAC declarations but administrative/processing charges may be imposed by carriers acting on your behalf.

Yes, go by regular airmail. My parents bought a $35 air purifier from a US company, and got charged $50 by UPS, on top of the shipping charges. (which are double-triple what USPS would charge)

I recommend avoiding them. Their service is spotty at best in most parts of Canada. Also, often they just subcontract to other couriers - but in the places they don't, there's lots of broken/dented parcels.

Our mail system is quite good in Canada. And the best courier (Purolator) is owned by CanadaPost... Ignoring their horribly inaccurate tracking, they beat Fedex in box/item quality upon arrival. ;)

I'm form Australia and received my Pandora 2 days ago via UPS (YAY!).
I can confirm that that there where no extra fee's involved.

Yeah, but how much is that in grown-up dollars?

Yes, yes, a Canadian currency joke. I am the king of edgy, original humor.
