I am sure this has been addressed somewhere in the forum but it is 5:00am in the morning and I cannot find a thing
Does the OS Pandora will be shipped with have a security log-in feature like, dare I say... vista ?
User setup accounts and such...

Thanks in advance,

D)

Well, it's a multi-user OS (Linux) and users can be assigned different access rights so if I understand you correctly the answer is yes. However, I expect the OS will come configured with just one or two accounts (user and admin) and will log you in automatically, since it is a mobile device. On the other hand there may be the option for a power on password (maybe a good idea - lock the screen at sleep/suspend). I don't know if there will be any GUI configuration utilities for user accounts etc, but you may be able to find one out there (such things exist for Linux). Devs?

It probably uses something sort of like Ubuntu, where you need to type in your password again to install software or modify system files. It's like Vista, but less annoying.

I think all apps will need root access to be installed, so you will at least need to know that. I'm sure you will be able to set up as many other user accounts as you wish, at least it's been my experience on the Linux distros I've tried.

You should also think about keeping applications in your home directory. You can just keep them all in a "Programs" directory, which is good for small applications that aren't managed by a packaging system.

Also, the SD card games / programs don't need to be installed, they run start from the card with user-level permissions. You could probably copy the *.pnd file to your home directory or your main SD card and run it from that. I think they want programs to use the pnd format, it seems very convenient.
