Resident Evil remaster coming to consoles/PC

No WiiU version seems a bit harsh, considering this is based on what was a Gamecube exclusive.
So what? Capcom made so much loss on the exclusive games they made for the GC at the time, they would be utterly stupid to keep supporting losing consoles.
It's (Almost) free money that they are snubbing seeing as they are porting from the GameCube remake... The Wii U is very similar to it's predecessors so it would probably require the least amount of effort in porting it as opposed to all the systems they've already confirmed.

So yeah in my oppinion they are stupid not to port it. And the complexities of accomodating the extra screen are minor. They could do a lazy port  and not even use the gamepad screen for anything. They could put a little effort and output the map on there.

It's not about that, the WiiU market is mainly aimed at kids, and they learnt that lesson already with the GC, that kind of console positioning does not sell Resident Evil games very well. Capcom does not do charity, there's very little incentive to port stuff for WiiU for 3rd parties.

Plus, not sure what you are referring to when you say it does not require work to make it work on WiiU - your claim is based on what ? Do you know if tools used to develop on Xbox360 / PS3 are available for WiiU ? If they are not, it's a whole lot of work.

I have to agree, releasing this on the WiiU would be a huge waist of time. It's going to be "M" rated, and the chances of them making money in comparison to what they would spend seems minimal at best.

Capcom is currently in the toilet, same as "N", so I really don't see either company doing the other any favors. RE Revelations 3DS was one of the better RE games in a long time, and I'm sure they sold way more on the consoles when it was released. 3rd party games on any "N" system struggle to do well, and "M" ones are just about complete failures. RE4 was probably the only one to do really well, and that was just due to it being a kick ass game.

EDIT: Plus being digital only makes it an even harder sale on the WiiU. How many WiiU owners don't have a 360, PS3 or one of the newer consoles? I doubt there are many who only have a WiiU. Just buy this elsewhere.

Yeah, could they do something cool with the tablet to make it better than the others? Of course, but it wouldn't really bring in anymore money, and it would just be a waste of there time. If I was running Capcom, I would have made the same decision.

Actually, none of them are really "in the toilet". Let's say they both had better days. Nintendo is sitting on a pile of cash so enormous they could afford to go in the red for like 20 years in a row and still escape unharmed. The pressure is rather on the CEO - if Iwata wants to remain in his position he needs to turn the company results sooner than later - but the company is not going to die anytime soon.

Capcom's financials are not too bad (at least in 2013): http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/data/oar/segments/financial.html  - their sales are stable, while their net income is decreased (but still positive). I think there are lot more Japanese publishers than should be worried about their future, and Capcom is not the main one - they are rather forward looking and come up with decent new games once in a while (while destroying other IPs like Re with RE5 and RE6!).

Sorry but I need to point out you are wrong on that one.

RE5 sold more than RE4, with more than 6.5 millions units.

RE6 was however missing its sales target (was supposed to sell 7 millions, sold only 4.9)

Compared to several years ago, yes they are both in the toilet. Capcom has lost key members through firing or quieting and they haven't done anything good in a long time. Their public opinion is also at rock bottom, as they have done really bad fan service with DLC. They are at the worst they have ever been, and I see nothing in their immediate future to change that. It's only down hill from here. All they are doing is remakes and updates to things like Ace Attorney, there is no creative games on the horizon.

Yes, "N" is very far from broke, but games like Zelda cost millions, and making new consoles and handhelds cost tons more in R&D. When you have money, and nothing is really keeping you in the positive, that money will dry up quickly. It will also erode confidence in making new software or taking chances on new ideas. We can already see how this is effecting their games. So are they broke? No, but are they at the lowest point in their gaming career? I would personally say so.

You do see that I was referring to RE on a "N" system right? As this was the whole basis of the discussion. RE selling poorly on "N" systems. If your going to bring up numbers, bring up those of RE games on "N" platforms, and I think you'll find RE4 sold the most. Next time quote the whole statement, and don't be so quick to prove someone wrong.

People were saying the same thing about Sony when the PS3 was out and not selling well ("Sony is dead") and look, now that they came back with the PS4 everyone is happy to say the future is bright for Sony.

Do not jump to conclusions over a single generation of consoles. The N64 sold Ok, the GC sold poorly, yet they came up with the Wii that broke records. They may pull it again in another 5 years, who knows.

Besides, their core business is way more skewed on the portables consoles, not on the home consoles anymore. While the sales of 3DS are decreasing, it's still a system selling really well, and contributing to a large source of their income. That won't disappear anytime soon, especially since the 3DS is the de facto standard for gaming consoles on the go (the PS Vita not working at all).

OK, I just thought you were referring to RE4 as the last RE game that sold well for Capcom - no problem if your statement focuses on "N" systems only, but then it's not really a fair comparison since RE5 and RE6 were not released on Nintendo systems, and they are the only "canonical" RE worth considering, i.e. not spin-offs.

Capcom has lost key members through firing or quieting and they haven't done anything good in a long time.
Are you talking about Inafume ? Or someone else? Inafume has had no major success at Capcom for a long time, to be honest, it was time for him to do something else.

And as far as I know SF4 has been hugely popular over the past few years, with the same person who was in charge of SF2 in the first place. It's not all black or white.
