Remember The Nextstep Operating System...?

I like the OS, it was very advanced for its time - I'd just like to have it on my gp2x for kicks :p

You should be-able to port over GnuStep using the X11 port for the GP2X. Although, the screen resolution will be sort of squished.

Wikipedia info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNUstep
Project website with source code: http://www.gnustep.org/

Happy porting :)

what do I need to do to port this? I've got gp2X11. Assuming I find the source code for GNUstep, what do I have to do with it?

Ima a nublet.

First you will need the development toolchains for both the GP2X and X11. You can locate on how to install these from the GP2X wiki pages located here:

http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Getting_started_...P2X_development

The X11 project website is located here: http://x11.gp2x.de/

If you need any help with installing the toolchains, I am sure someone from the project website can be of assistance.

The source code repo for Gnustep can be located on this website:

http://wwwmain.gnustep.org/resources/downl...ub%2Fgnustep%2F

If this is your first time attempting to compile a program for the GP2X, this would not be an easy first project.

Good luck to you.

I don't think this will be easy at all. Even if you get GNUstep ported, you will not be able to use it as a window manager because that's not what it is. It's rather a framework for developing applications and giving them a look but it does not seem to provide any kind of desktop environment on it's own. It's also not an OS at all.

Read this: http://www.gnustep.org/information/aboutGNUstep.html and scroll down to the "...is not" section.

I doubt it is what you were looking for.
