Regarding Mobile Module

I have already preordered the Mobile EU version of the Pyra. Yet I will be applying for a PhD in the States from September. Are there overlapping bands? Could I just resolder a US module? Can I change my preorder then, if I get accepted?

If I remember correctly, the US module will work in EU, but only on 2G. The EU module won't work in the US at all.

When they become available, you could order a US 4G mainboard from Dragonbox and simply swap between it and your EU 4G mainboard as needed (open Pyra, disconnect LCD cable and CPU board, remove EU mainboard, replace with US mainboard, reconnect LCD cable and CPU board, close Pyra, magic bananas). There might be some config mumbo-jumbo down the line, but that's the theoretical method due to the Pyra's modular nature.

No, you won't have to desolder anything. Simple.

AFAIK, the only overlapping bands are all 2G, so you'll only be able to call/text. No data.

Except that apparently some carriers are phasing out 2G in the US, so even that won't work eventually.

Thanks for the replies. I may get a second Pyra down the line. Or use a Usb mobile module if I find something linux compatible.

And that doesn't even matter as the EU one has no overlap at all. The US one will work in EU on 2G, but not the other way around.
2g in the states will be phased out by 2019 I read. So it should be up when he is here still for a couple years atleast

Yeah but if he gets the US one he could just use 3G here. And AT&T is phasing it out by 2017 actually.
