The default video player on the GP2X works fairly well, but lacks a number of features like Auto-Resume, Custom Bookmarks, support for more codecs, etc. And the sound volume seems quite low compared to the mp3 and game modules. I know that the video player is a separate program, but is it something that can be replaced with an alternate app? Since the GP2X uses Linux, how difficult would it be to compile something like Mplayer for the GP2X? Is that something that's even possible?

Hahhaha jeez. The 2x uses mplayer :p

yes, it does use mplayer but it doesn't offer any of the immpresive features of mplayer. Im surprized nobody has made a codec pack for the gp2x yet. GPH cant distribute the codecs with the gp2x for legal reasons but someone else could make an unofficial codec pack. Doing anything like this though is near impossible without source code of the gp2x linux kernal and of the video player. But back on topic, i think the video player was rushed out to quickly and that we may even see more features with further upgrades but till then it seems unlikely anyone will be able to port a more versitile player due to the tight memory. Our best bet is to look to what the pocketpc and palm os devs did with video on little memory.

yup, the 2x uses mplayer as it's media player.

However, the codec support is limited, as it's provided by MagicEyes as a binary lump for executing on both processors (video on the 940, audio on the 920). Other players could of course be ported, but don't expect the same level of speed.
