Hey,

So I have an offer on ebay for $600 for my gameboys. Buyer is in Italy, I'm in the US. He has some feedback and theyre all good. Other transactions indicate he is a collector.

He requested I put value: $50 so he avoids most taxes as they'd be around $200 (he claims) if I put actual value.

Should I do this? Will it affect anything if I need to file a claim for value of the package?

Please advise.

Thanks,

DCGM

"mmm sorry but i'm thinking about it...i read that i must pay about 200$ of duty if we use normal shipment (usps) and if you write the right value on the pack.
you must use fedex (or tnt) and write games gift used and less than 50$ of value.
let me know what do you think about it.
thx"

it's technically illegal to misrepresent the value of goods, so I can't really suggest that you go through with it.
On the other hand, it's unlikely anyone will take note, or go to the effort to prove you lied.
On the other other hand, shipping insurance is exactly the value that you mark on it. If something were to happen to the shipment and the buyer issues a chargeback, you're out $550.

The inner value of an object isn't related to the deal you have you him, no ?
He is totally allowed to think theses gameboys worth 50$ but agree to pay them 600$ no ?

cheers ;)

Unfortunately, insurance covers the value of the item. If I sold a block of wood for $1000.00 but it's listed as being worth $1.50, the post office will refund me the $1.50.

Any other input? I don't think I'll be doing this, but just confirming.

It's gonna be hard for you to sell to Europe then. Import taxes on electronics are freaking crazy. But I wouldn't risk it either. Nice to see you still check the forums btw.

Do they only get charged on shipments that are over a certain amount? If so, could you break the shipment up into smaller amounts. The shipping will be more, but nowhere near as much as that tax!
The only other alternative I'd be willing to do is get the money from them upfront and then ship it how they wish, with them accepting the consequences of any losses. You'd have to do the payment through something other than PayPal though, as they could try taking the money back once they receive the stuff :/

OOOOOR... know anyone going on holiday to somewhere in Europe soon, with a somewhat empty suitcase? :p
