Hi Guys,

I think i have the latest quake version on the gp2x, when using tv-out i get real bad flickering, almost looks 3d without the glasses. Is there a solution to this, if so can you explain or link me to the solution, I can't find it in search.

Doom with the blood patch looks quite good on tv-out no flickering, I know theres a few threads on changing the reolution to 320x240 , but can it be done for both games? and do they need these script things to do so? if so how do they work!

I've seen an downloaded a fix for some programs to work better with tv out, what games are supported?

Any info or links would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Paul :D

Try this. Can't remember if this gpe works, but it's compiled with the latest SDL which is supposed to fix the tv out problem. It also has improved fov code from quakesrc.org when using widescreen resolutions (but use 312x180 instead of 320x180 as SDL doesn't seem to scale the 320x180 screen to fit like it should). I've no idea how this will look on a widescreen tv as I don't have a tv cable or a widescreen tv, but hopefully it should look quite good. 427x240 should look better but it will be quite a bit slower.

Cheers Mate will try and report back :D how do you change the resolution ? I assume is via this script thing, what are they, are they a text file? and where are they placed.

Cheers

A script is just a text file, but you need to make sure that it's in unix format so be careful if you use windows as things like notepad only save in windows format (different line endings). Have a search on this forum for people talking about good text editors to use on windows.

To set the screen resolution for quake you just need a one line script like this -
Code:
./quake.gpe -width 312 -height 180
Obviously you should change quake.gpe to quaketv.gpe if you're using this test version. Make sure the script is in the same folder as quake.gpe.

I'm fuzzy on scripts and the way they work. Do I just write that one line in a text editor (Like ConText) and save it as a gpe?

Yep I was to, I think. I downloaded 'Programmers Notepad' just google it :p put the command line above in the editor screen and then save as UNIX format. Job done ;) I saved the file them renamed it with the GPE extension on the end. When I run this new fine the game loads up.

But interms on difference its hard to tell as both the doom and quake gpe files were optimised for tv so i'm not sure if the resolution is already set to 320x240.

If i missed something please let me know as I am a novice at this console only had it a week. :(

I changed the format resolution to 320x240 Doom looks quite good on a 14" screen but quake looks very blocky really shame as I thought this would be the better of the two. The Blood patch does a good job who ever wrote it well done!

Any advice welcome.

Cheers
Paul
