I have an old pc in my room that had windows 2000 on it and I decided to install ubuntu on it. I ordered the discs online (they're free!) and when they finally arrived I installed it. Seemed to go fine. Now, however, I am trying to setup ndiswrapper following a guide I found online and it tells me to type
Code:
sudo -s [password]
in order to login as root. However, when I try to do this it says
Code:
Sudo: unable to look up ubuntu via gethostbyname()
What is wrong? Do I need to be connected to the internet or something?

Please answer in simple windows-user terms (or explain the terms you use) because I'm new to linux.

Thanks,
-ben

using simply sudo gives me the same error.....

EDIT: I may have resolved the problem with the help of someone on IRC....

well, with the help of beno on #gp2xdev I have solved this problem and successfuly configured my wireless usb adapter. I am posting this from my ubuntu 5.10 computer!
