Which printer drivers are currently available for ARM linux? It would be nice having the usual suspects wlan printers available...

You know I've never thought about that - the idea of printing from the Pandora seems bizarre - but totally possible.

Well printer drivers used to be pretty simple, the protocols were always pretty easy to code for - BUT is this still the case, or are they secret closed source things now?

I should imagine it will be possible to get most printers going though.

Ha, I like this idea a lot, I can't wait to print something via the Pandora.

hey

Hah, I agree it would be pretty cool to print from the Pandora :).

Anyhows I made sure I got a HP Printer, as I know they are well supported on Linux :). I thinks the drivers are open source so I will have to try compile them for the ARM when I get a Pandora.

In my case, I use hplip and hpoj :).

edit
I see that both hplip and hpoj are on the debian ARM repository :).

I have a Samsung printer here running on a Linux server, serving my home network of XP machines using CUPS.

I've not actually tried Linux client-Linux server printing though. I'd be happy to test this out. Printing from Firefox on Pandora seems like it might be useful.

If you have a networked Postscript/PDF printer it's easy - just compile lpr or cups (although the latter would be a bit overkill for just sending ps/pdf) and your'e good to go.

The networked printer could be a printer installed on another computer, say at the office or at home. That wouldn't have to be a postcript printer, you would just have to install Cups on the computer and it would be a networked ps/pdf printer as far as the Pandora is concerned.

I think Tor is right. If your printer is connected to a pc/mac running cups and you are planning to print via network (wired or wireless) the only thing you have to do is (afaik) to compile cups (w/o drivers?).

I do this with my notebook: The printer is connected to some wired PC but if I open cups at the notebook while connected to the network (wifi) the wired PCs printer magically appears. And i never installed it at the notebook...

I always wanted to print stuff on my HP 200lx - it has an IR system that worked with HP printers so you could send it wirelessly. Never got it working though.

Anyone got drivers for the Gameboy Printer? ^_^

Yes, without the drivers, but sometimes it's just easier to just compile the thing straight from of the original source, even though it produces a lot of stuff (e.g. drivers) which you don't need. It'll work fine all the same. It was all done for the Nokia tablets, cups and lpr both. Lpr is tiny, a few hundred kilobytes. Both should do the job. And Firefox can be set up to print through this when you click 'Print'.

Exactly! :D

I hadn't thought about this either. But since I plan to do some minor text editing on my Pandora, printing will be something I'd want to do occasionally. :)

I have a late 90s HP DeskJet hooked to my network via a JetDirect 175x print server. I also have the printer shared from my Windows machine as well. Anyone know which print method will be easiest to get working on the Pandora?

If all else fails, it was one of the earliest DeskJets with USB, so I could just hook it up directly.
