Please Port A Better Nes Emulator

Hello, I see there is a very good NES emulator out there right now, but if someone could add these features, it would make it so much better

-Built in rom selector, looks in a specific folder for them
-supports .fds files
-uses a button on the gp2x to "flip over" the disk to side a, or b
-ability to use the disksys.rom which is required to play the .fds files
-starts the disksys.rom, then runs the .fds file

Thank you, fdsman

You know, I usually try to keep my head out of threads like these since the only posts they garner are "Do it yourself since you want it so bad" or "Dude fucking lay off him since I'm his personal saviour I have to protect him from harm".

However, take note that this post is in the "Cool Ideas and other wishes :)" section. Like the "I need help!" section where there's (supposedly) no such thing as a stupid question, there shouldn't be ridicule en mass whenever a newbie posts his request about a feature or program he'd like to see.

Sure, the wording may be borderline rude, but so are the replies. Believe me, I'm holding back the urge to say 'gtfo n00b', but there has to be some level-headedness around here or else we'll all be acting as badly as someone who just about demands that things be done so he can play more games.

Fdsman, note that a lot of time and effort usually goes into making significant changes in an emulator like you suggest. Surely you have no idea how to write an emulator or make these changes yourself, or else you wouldn't have made your post seem like 'this is obvious, do it now and it will make the emulator better.' But, like I said, you should have the right to ask whatever you want in this section -- it's just that you should also have the right to be ignored.

Cheers.

.dfs is for noobs. Besides, fishnes is godly.

Why support famicom disc system games? NES roms are so readily available and conversions are easy enough to do.. All I ask is for full speed NES with save states..

What you are asking for here are enhancements not actually related to the quality of emulation. Your post implies that a whole new emu is needed and leaves people thinking you are dismissing the hard work already put into these programs.
Putting ' I would like someone to read this and port it into the gp2x' has totally alienated you in the first sentence. If you had called this thread 'Ideas to enhance the already brilliant NES emu' and started with 'The NES emu rocks ! I think these features would make it even better....." your post would have been taken seriously.
Imagine someone had just dismissed your work in such an offhand manner. Would you feel inclined to then work on stuff they wanted ( for free !) ?
If you had looked around the board you would have seen how people who demand stuff are pilloried. There is even a thread that suggests how to ask for stuff to help those lacking in inter personal skills.
If you think your reception here has been a bit rough, just wait until daclassicgamingtroll and telCLOSElou get here.

ha!

i can't say i've ever seen a thread that lou closed that wasn't asking for it...and usually it's to protect the poster from flames, not insult them.

serious question though: what can't you get as cartridge roms (besides porn games :))? are there good disk system games that were never released as carts? also, shouldn't it be possible to convert famicom disk images to cartridge roms? or is there too much intervening hardware in the fds?

Wasn't there a good Zelda game for fds?

Thanks, that really made me laugh!

And thanks also for iignotus' very well-written reply (post #4), and thanks to Nickspoon for linking the "Don't be a dick" topic.

All I want is save states added to fishynes (and maybe fix some bugs in a few games...). The save files don't always work, which is annoying in rpgs. It'd also make password games more friendly for on the go play.

I simply want full speed and all roms to work.

Am I the only one that has problems with fishyNES? Maybe I should download it again and try it again.

No, I have problems with it too. It's close to fullspeed but not quite, and a lot of the roms I have will load but have all kinds of graphical errors. Compatibility isn't great yet. I also wouldn't mind save states, with an interface similar to either DrMD or Gnuboy2X, but compatibility and speed are higher priorities as far as I'm concerned.

I hope nobody takes this as a dig at fishyNES, though. I do think the potential is there for an amazing emu, but it was still early in development at the last release, and there's been no word from fishybawb lately so I don't know if we'll see that potential fulfilled. :(

If someone can do it, it would be wonderful. The emulator that's out there is great. If someone can, please add the features I requested, my would and some others would be brighter. Also, if you didn't read all of my post, I did say thank you.

I just retried it and it was better then I remember but it still has slow downs and graphical glitches.

Most games run at like 52fps so I have to use frameskip 1 :(
Also there are a few games that don't even run.

It is a good emulator, just needs to pick up some speed. Kind of a disapointment that a new version has not been released for awhile.

why not just overclock? or are you already overclocking?

I suppose I could find out how to make a script and overclock but really that should not be necissary for an NES emulator. I would expect to be able to under clock to 133-166mhz on NES.

Not that I am bashing fishy NES, just that it is a little to early in the dev cycle for me to truly enjoy.

Fishynes godly? No freaking way, it still lags on SMB3. It's good, but not anywhere near a status of "godly".
