Hi all, just wondering, do any of the retro game IP holders accept paypal donations, or provide a way of obtaining a legal copy of old games?

hmm, well I know this isn't helpful much - but I think you'd have to do some extreme googling for that. You can probably buy actual roms/cartridges etc on ebay - but doesn't really benefit the authors much. Legally of course it means you can set your conscience at ease... You'd probably have to chase up individuals etc really for most of the older games.

As regards Dos games, there are a few epic mega games are still selling I think, which I would presume benefits the authors in some way...

Edit; not that its probably the chief thing you had in mind, but here's the link;

Hmm, Star Roms went under a year ago; they actually sold ROMs legally, so you coudl buy a few packs and own the license for them. (I stocked up on Atari roms from them :)

I've ripped hundreds and hundreds myself, which takes dedication.. not for most people. But there are lots of ways to obtain _rights_ and sometimes even the ROM too.

ie: Gameboy Player or whatever it was had some old school games on it; buyying the swipe card and voila, you can read the ROM from it (!!), but just owning it gets you the licence to the ROM indefinitely. Pick them up on ebay cheap (pennies).

You coudl buy a commercial emu; ie: Buiy the PSX Atari collections, each one with a few dozen games on it; they're hard to rip the ROMs from, but you get the _licence_ by owning it; its not kocher to go download the rom then later, but at least you get the rights to own it.

NAtch the game IP owners don't get much for this, since you're buying second hand. They'll fikgure it out eventually.

They're content instead to rape us by re-selling Pacman on every machien that comes out, so they make theirs.. don't you worry :)
