When I read this topic I thought about one thing. Will every copy of Pandora be tested after assembly? Run detailed tests, and other stuff?
How many broken pixels are "normal"? Because I wouldn't want to get even one.
And so on. And so on.

Test*ing*, not testy! Take a break, Crasherball...

Craig has mentioned that each unit will be tested before shipping. I'm guessing this will be something like a 24 hour burn in time. However, it's too early on this side of the planet for me to verify this properly. (Forum search reveals craigix's post about testing each unit, not about how)

My guess would be a test program would be wrote to check everything is working. For example you can check the joypad, buttons, keys, touchscreen with an on screen representation, press the buttons and they light up. then do some hardware checks like dead/stuck pixels, speakers, memory, SD check etc. Come to think of it, its not far from my SDL Test program :)

I reckon it would take a minute or two to perform these tests per pandora so its not that bad as the units would be split up between the stores so this could be possible.

On some devices tests like these are even included in the bios, so you actually don't need an OS. My Asus Pocket PC had a button combination for it.
