Pandora Desktop Environment Prototype Try 2 (screenshots And Videos)

Well, I decided it would be pretty handy to still see the time, battery life and so on if its in a correct aspect ratio fullscreen mode ;) If you look cloesly, you'll notice the desktop is actually dimmed down a bit. Perhaps this could be a user configurable option that can set the opacity percentage :) so you can have it full black or whatever.

EDIT: Spelling fix.

It looks good, but I thought that fullscreen would really be 'full screen' (ie black bars on side with option to stretch picture) and not show the desktop behind it.

It will be.

It looks like someone missed the part where matchbox is a fullscreen window manager. :D Just kidding...
But really, you're not going to be getting either of those last two screens with MB. The middle shot will be a large black screen with the titlebar taking over the area of the screen where the desktop say "Programs", with the current plan being the battery/etc applets will be embedded in that titlebar. Then the last screenshot will look the same except with the larger snes area as you have shown. Then, if desired, you can toggle the titlebar off and on to go "fully fullscreen"...

Ah nuts, so it isn't THAT configurable then? It being called a window mangaer threw me off a bit then :p Guess I should theme up the real thing somehow. What's the fastest + easiest way for me to get matchbox up and running via Virtual Box? I've got a ubuntu cd lying around, but have no idea how to set matchbox up. I'm pretty fresh to Linux.

I'm also running ubuntu in VirtualBox. You can just pull down matchbox via apt(Synaptic if you like guis). Then it should just be available as a session on your login screen. I just size my VirtualBox window to 800x480 and then login.

if forget the exact commands (and internet on my linux box is iffy.. dialup) but you can

sudo aptitude search matchbox to list packages related to matchbox

probably something like sudo apt-get install matchbox-desktop matchbox-themes

also xoo is a program you should check out... you can set it up to test matchbox in a nested X11 session and greendots posted a config for it above

edited: added sudo ... forgot you were on ubuntu

This seemed like a good time to jump in and point at:

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?s=&am...st&p=678294

These are good template files to start from. Unarchive them into your test account.

Basically, rename the .xsession file to 'start-matchbox' and point xoo to execute it. That'll set up the environment nicely, with the titlebar with applets in them.

Alright... Second attempt at trying something.
Its more on a software side than Desktop side.

HERE (with a little application preview that might never exist , its just me retro dreaming):

And here is the Non-resized version:

Im pretty sure that the pixel quadrupling will look like pixel doubling on the Pandora.

Ready ... Set... CRITICIZE!

EDIT: DO anyone know what font is similar to the one im using ( size and style )
Because i couldn't find any ( actually made in myself ).

If it doesn't exist... i guess i'll have to make my own.

Uhm. Guys. :)

I know that you all are going crazy with the themes. But perhaps you should actually run Matchbox and play with it before coming up with things that don't fit in Matchbox? :)

I've given you all the tools you need to play with Matchbox.

is it possible to have a row with categories (folders) on top/bottom/side/whatever like in gmenu on matchbox so that you don't have to go back from the folder you are in currently to go to another category?
