My friend who owns a hacked PSP 2000 says he could control a TV with his PSP... Could this be implemented into the Pandora

There are many possible solutions for controlling a TV one way or the other, depending on set up, but one of these: CODE

would make the Pandora a universal remote control. (there must be smaller ones out there)

What fischju said. The Pandora has no IR port otherwise. Actually, the PSP-2000 doesn't have an IR port, either; are you sure your friend doesn't have a 1000? If he claims a slim model is acting as an IR remote with no additional hardware, he's either mistaken or full of shit. IR functionality is arguably the most significant advantage of the phat PSP over the slim.

Ive assumed that he has a slim because thats what he brings to school... Might have another fat.. or he might be full of shit... No infrared huh... damn

Well. he happens to eat shit and it stays half-digested so ya know...

Guess this'll be a dream :p

Get a beagleboard, hook it up to your TV's serial port, code a script to control your tv through the serial connection, ssh to beagleboard from pandora :)

Well, the sort of it is that the Pandora doesn't come with a built-in IR (InfraRed) port. So, no easy solution. You will have to add an external IR unit. Maybe there are USB dongles out there. At this point it's a question of if it pays offat all though..
A Palm PDA can control a TV through its IR port, so if you just have the port it's not impossible. I'm not sure if there are truly open source applications out there though.[edit: typo]

I used to sabotage my friends' IR-multiplayer cell phone snake game (the one on nokia 6110 or something) with my palm pilot by generating random IR-noise. Man I was a jerk now that I think about it :D

Probably, an IR mod is one of the simplest things to do, it's certainly small enough.

Personally i'd rather reach for another remote than drill holes in my Pandora though :)

Actually an ex co-worker showed me that he was abot to log into his cable box or TiVo or some such device though the internet with his PSP. He was able to get CNN on it and even changed channels while I was viewing it so there's probably something similar that you can do with it.

Depending on what you're using as your cable/satellite/whatever receiver, you have quite a variety of options. For instance, a linux box with a tuner card can be controlled remotely via ssh using ivtvtune (http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Ivtv-tune), or you could write a pair of client/server programs, the daemon listening on an arbitrary port for instructions from the client sending to the same arbitrary port. You could even have a multicast option to control multiple displays on your network at once. Build a slick UI for the client-side program and *whoohoo!* you're using your Pandora as a remote control over your wireless network. The same can probably be done for Windows Media Center edition or (maybe) XBMC, although I'm not very familiar with these latter two (not even sure if XBMC supports controlling a tuner card).

I've heard of similar plugins (http://sourceforge.net/projects/mythcontrol/) for MythTV, but they were built for a WinCE client. Don't see why you couldn't hijack the spec and code a client for linux pretty quickly, though.

I thought I saw something where there was a header in the screen lid for modders to mount an LED behind the Pandora logo...???

Would a person be able to use that to tap in/mount an IR LED instead? After all, you're going to be using this with the lid up and pointed towards the item you're controlling anyway.

Then comes the question of how to control it...
