The post below was lifted directly from neogaf. I'm posting this on both Pandora forums.

(PSGroove) just came out.

http://github.com/psgroove/psgroove // http://ps3wiki.lan.st

This is the PSGroove, an open-source reimplementation of the psjailbreak exploit for AT90USB and related microcontrollers.

It should work on:

* AT90USB162
* AT90USB646
* AT90USB647
* AT90USB1286
* AT90USB1287
* ATMEGA32U4

... and maybe more.

This software is not intended to enable piracy, and such features have been disabled. This software is intended to allow the execution of unsigned third-party apps and games on the PS3.

Since the above post, it's gotten even more interesting. Plans are underway to port the code to PSP and Android, which means you don't need to buy a dedicated microcontroller board to run this - just plug your device into the PS3. And with the source code available to all, who knows what other platforms we could see it ported to.

Anyone else fancy the idea of plugging a Pandora into their PS3 to enable homebrew?

Yeah, but to be honest, I don't see Sony leaving this unpatched for long, and they're nowhere near as incompetent as Nintendo when it comes to security.

Which is (one reason) why I don't have a PS3.

First it was the Porndora, and now it might be one of many routes to PS3 game piracy. The Pandora is getting cooler and cooler!

Being to download a software and just plug in any smartphone will turn from the console that stood uncracked for the most time, to the easiest to crack console.
Free from both money and hassles.

Heck, with the wii, whose security sucks ball, at least you have to own one type of game (or at least rent it) to crack it, with the minimum amount of money.

As Tom said, we still need a move from Sony which will define how the cat and mouse game will be played.
Either PSP like, with millions of updates that does nothing requiring new hardware revisions, or Microsoft style, with a single update killing every single hole, and making people wait ages before a new hole is discovered, or forcing them to live outdated.

I don't own a PS3 (nor a 360), but this type of game could be interesting.

An alternative project, conceived as a Linux driver (and then maybe easier to port?) : http://kakaroto.homelinux.net/2010/09/update-on-psjailbreak-linux-kernel-for-n900-devices/

Edit:
Oh and it seems something is already on the way for Omap: https://twitter.com/marcan42/status/22751170451

There are suitable system menu exploits for most all firmwares other than the latest one that require only an SD card. There are public libraries with video game collections, so it's not necessary in many areas to spend any money at all on games.

Taken from Neogaf. Looks like it works!

AAArgh! You mischief maker! :)

I'm very interested in this, but will need somebody else to take the plunge first >hint hint<.

If they can stop updates being required then I'm all for it.

Bump.

Off topic here, but it builds without problems for pandora too (version for HF4):

..but according to vimacs it doesn't work. It's still heavily developed so I can build newer versions if anyone wants to try.

I love Nintendo's anti-piracy measures. In order to use the shop chanel you have to have the latest firmware. But I refuse to update my firmware for fear of loosing the Homebrew channel. I therefore cannot legitimately buy games from WiiWare. And that makes me a sad Panda...

It's the same cat & mouse game with Sony from here on. You get homebrew, or you get PSN. I choo-choo-choose homebrew.

[edit] Little birdy says Drk||Raziel is porting NullDC!

Sigh...
What happened to the pandora port they showcased so proudly some time ago?

Ok, maybe he wasn't doing the work, but why whomever was doing it, didn't either finish a quick port or at least release what he has done so far so either we could complete it, or at least enjoy whatever has been done so far.

I miss some chu chu rocket :(

As far as I know you just need a newer IOS version - there's an application that will install it for you. Everything is on Nintendo's public server, it just needs an application to download and install it without installing the system menu update (pretty easy, it's just a few lines of code, and it was done almost as soon as the update came out).
