If sam is god, then let's hope his (also presumably powerful) brother doesn't destroy the world by screaming at it.

Actually God isn't one of us, it's a universe bot that takes action depending on your attitude. God adheres to certain rules, if you break the rules God booms out a warning and your criminal level goes up, if it reaches 100%, you're thrown into jail for a period.

Mind you, I will have real life moderators called Law Givers :)

Wow... an automated god... that's really cool
*steals idea for own project*

Hehe, my project is starting to look pretty cool. It's going to have Rhino integrated so every NPC or object in game can have a script, and storage using JDBC/MySQL (not that anyone actually playing the game really cares how stuff is stored, it's just cool on the coders side of things)

It's a classic telnet-connect sort of thing, I'll post an address if it ever gets playable and I have decent enough hosting :D

Yeah that would be nice, it will be interesting to see how others are doing in similar projects :)

Java: Possibly.

Fluffy, if you ever need a law-giver, i'd be happy to help. I'd give that law good.

Wasn't that the plot for every third episode of Star Trek? ;)

LOL I remember one of them episodes, the law givers (Men in hooded cloaks) dealt justice to outsiders (known as people who are "Not of the body") by shooting plasma out of hollow wooden tubes. And wouldn't you know it, they were all being controlled by an evil computer called Landrew

Ohhhh the nostalgia.

Anyhoo, my Law givers will not have hollow wooden poles, well, maybe a pointy stick or two

Edit: I also want to include a smidgen of humour in the world, things that happen for no reason that make you laugh, such as two bots that hate each other and fight every time their paths cross. Or a race of 15 footed midgets :D

When I get back to the Real World (backpacking through SE Asia atm... lugging my Thinkpad along for the ride... <_< ) in a couple of weeks, and find a place to live, AND get the internet hooked up.... I'll put my FreeBSD box back up and show of my little virtual world project.

No web interface fanciness, though maybe I should look into it via a Java client applet.. hmm. Maybe get a chance to load test it with some people from here. B)

Hahaha, I thought I was the only one interested in devving MUDs anymore, now this thread shows up and I find that everyone wants to do it :p

Well here's an update:

After playing with methods of getting actions and events in the world to work, I found it was getting way too complex. Creating tables of cause and effect or being triggered when two items are combined is okay but not very flexible. Sooo, I have now decided to write a basic scripting language I call O-Script.

I will let you know more when I have the basic structure/syntax.

Clare.
