I was wondering if anyoone knew a way of changing the order of the items in the freelauncher menu without uninstalling and reinstalling them in the order you need?

Also, while I'm on the subject, does anyone know a way to change the order of the items on the game menu without uninstalling and reinstalling?

Cheers

the only way ive found to do this is by copying the run file from my SMC to my HD, delete it, then copy it back on

not great but it works :)

i think it's more to do with the order of things in the FAT (file allocation table), which dictates the order things are listed in when the GPOS queries the SMC.

In the days of the ST there was a program called the Auto Folder Sorter (or something), as things in the AUTO folder were run in an order dictated by the same rules. it did all the copying out automatically. ;)

Ah - I see.....

I may write a little proggy to do just that. Nice little C++ project for me :)

Hmmm - should only take... ooooh.... about 2 years at my current rate :)

Only joking (I hope!)

Cheers

I think you can also do this on your GP32 without a PC using Don Miguel's Compact File Manager (COMI 1.0).
First create a temp dir under gpmm. Then move all the executables from gpmm to the temp dir. After that move them back from the temp to gpmm in the order you want them in.

The reason I say "I think it works" is because I am at work at the moment and forgot to bring my GP32 so I can't check it. :-(

does GPFM support copying?

It's in there, only the author forgot to activate the function (see readme / website). Hopefully he will release a version with copying enabled.

surely a new version would be easy to release if it was a simple case of activating the function. i'm betting the author has not yet written the copy facility.

My guess is that if he can move the file (move = first copy, then delete original) he can also copy it. Unless he does the file move by altering entries in the fat table. But according to the time it takes to move a file I guess it's just a copy+delete.

i do think move requires a simple FAT table restructure, copy requires actual data manipulation.

Thats what I meant to say with "altering entries in the fat table". But I don't think there is something like a 'simple' FAT table restucture (and copy is propably a standard lib function).

After some searching finally found this note from the author:

What's new:

Known Bugs:
- I have forgotten to add "file copy" function T__T

as i say, if it was a simple change - such as commenting out a line in the file - a new build would have been released.

He's forgotten to -add- it, i.e. code it, I was thinking...

However ... in DOS there is no 'move' command, you must copy then delete the originals. Maybe he has coded it, used it in the move function, but forgotten to add an entry in the command list for it.

not true, you use the rename command. this does the FAT modifying.

Ok...I stand corrected :D

Call me stupid if you will, but I never thought of using rename to move files...I can see the logic now.

Just thought i'd reply here to say i've found out something interesting:

You can reorder items in Free Launcher by moving .fxe files out of the GPMM directory and back in the order you want them.

However, if you want to reorder items in the GAME menu, you move them back in the reverse of the order you want them in.

I use GPFM and move them to the ETC folder and back again.

Would people be interested in a small util that does this menu reordering on the GP32 itself? I have been wanting to get my GP32 dev env set up and this owuld be excuse enough for me.

The app would present a list of all executables in the GPMM and you would be able to reorder until you are happy then press commit to have them sorted. Same with the GAME menu.

I have just double checked, GPFM File Manager 0.1.5a does indeed support copying, But only one file at a time.
Still the best FM on the GP32
Press the select button when on the file you want to copy, Then select copy, Sorted :D .

BTW, Open, Cut, Copy, Move, Delete and Un/Compress are there too. So is properties, But only bring up the about/program info requester.

Its also got MP3 player + EQ, Text viewer, JPG + BMP viewer etc.

Sorry if everyone already knew about this.
