Hi all,

After the resounding success of last years Brit meetup, I've been itching to get the process underway for the 2004 meetup. After some gentle prompting by nigelibrown via PM, this is the official GP32x British Meetup thread declared OPEN! :D

After rumblings on the board back a few months ago, Birmingham seemed to emerge as a popular choice for this year's get-together. So lets get those suggestions rolling in people. Venues, ideas, locations (i.e. alternatives to Brum), etc etc etc.

Also, suggestions for dates would be welcome. I suggest mid to late summer again (last years was at the ass-end of summer on the 30th August, so we could make it a bit earlier this time around).

Get those ideas in!

And look forward to seeing you all again :D

Cheers!

That was the venue last year. Only prob is, it can mean that some of the sub 18 Gp32ers cant come, unless we find a pub that doesn't mind. To be honest, a pub function room can be a good choice (depending on the pub!).

Could also be a small hall or something.

Keep em coming.

Most pubs allow under 18s as long as they dont drink?

A function room is a good idea.

Just looked at a map and while Birmingham is pretty far away im pretty sure I can get there on train. I can just get a train to St Helens where my family live after it.

it would be cool if it was like a E3 type affair with dev's showing of their new games

I would love to come, but I doubt I can find it in me to travel to GB "just" to meet you guys.... I seriously want to though ;)

I would suggest somwhere on the outskirts of Brum rather than the city centre itself, that way people can come into new street on the train and then get a bus to location (I can probably supply routes and bus numbers/locations) those of us that then drive in also dont have to worry about city centre parking and suchlike (last time I parked in brum it was £8 for 4 hours).

I am presently racking my brains for local pubs with a function room that wont charge for using it though.

Which town / county will it be in?
Initial thoughts are Birminham, in the West Midlands as it is the centre of the country so everyone has an equal distance to travel, coupled with good rail links and dare I say it Motorways :D

Lets do the brit meetup in Germany!
We can eat Maultaschen in Stuttgart.
Combined Oktobefest GP32 meet now that would rock ;)

Meeting outside the city center is bad idea, last thing people want do is another journey after getting into town, plus it just adds to your journey.

Also i've used the buses round birmingham when visting friends tis slooow..getting around!

Birmingham sounds good though as its pretty central with good transport links into the center

Brum is cool.. Worcester would be better!
Can we not make it Bank Holiday Weekend please? I won't be about (Reading Fest). I can understand weekends being a great choice for everyone, but if its possible to do a Monday or Friday, then that'd be ideal for me.

I'd love to make it this time around :)

if it were in Sheffield I would definatlely be there, other near (ish) loacations are ok but the further from Sheffield the more tied by work commitments I would be, so the further away it is the less likely it is that I'd be able to go. I work every weekend (nights) so as it'd probably be on a wekend the nearer the better.
