Nokia N900 Cpu Overclocked To 1Ghz

You can get a 12 month warranty from Mobicity. ;)

They don't usually have the best price, but warranty is worth it. I know a few guys who have bought from there. One of them suffered the infamous Nexus One screen shatter, needless to say he was glad he bought local.

^ Pandora has a 530, though ;)

ah, my bad, sorry. messed it up with the gma500.

it's still a differene in number of render pipelines, nothing more.

We've seen 900MHZ clock speeds on Pandora but that was on an early dev board.

We don't like to discuss overclocking on Pandora... We all remember that dark, dark day! ;)

Have you guys with N900's had any USB port issues?

I've been reading a lot of bad things about the USB port actually falling out and/or misaligned and failing.

I've found a few on eBay which I'm looking at buying asap but just have some concerns with USB port.
I haven't, but a couple of my friends have.

I'm in a very hard place. I was going to buy one, but then I started reading the USB port issues thread (126 pages!!) on Maemo Talk - It's just too risky. I don't want to be relying on a device, then it suddenly dies..
BUT I WANT ONE!

Gruso: They may not cover the failing USB port - (as above) I've been reading reports of Nokia failing to repair because of many reason. Even though the phones are barely even 6 months past release!

I AM GETTING AN N900!

(I'm going to do some tweaks to keep usb port IN THE PHONE)

Just finding the right one (eBay).

With that and the Pandora - We can RULE THE WORLD!

Grats!!! I'm still waiting to see one in the wild.

actually, the ipad has really close to pandoras specs. same cpu (if another revision - they say the silicon is closer to a snapdragon), same GPU, same amount of ram. ok, a bit more flash, but the rest is really close.
same cpu is a speculation (it may have the same ISA but different innards) and the gpu is known not to be the same. also, different lithography processes so everything else is practically irrelevant.

http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Apple-A4-Teardown/2204/3

look at step 20. A8+SGX 535+256 MB RAM

don't you tell me this is a guess....

If the iPad has an SGX 535, then it means a whole level of GPU performance altogether. This video seems to suggest it has something beyond the Pandora's SGX530 anyway: http://iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=8768

Running at native resolution (1024 x 768), at that frame rate (70fps+)? Wow :D I'm not getting one though, especially with the move Apple has recently made ...

I REALLY wish the Pandora had the SGX535 instead, argh!

iPhone has an SGX535, this is well know. Naturally iPad would have at least that.

I think that Quake 3 as ported is more CPU limited than GPU.

The reasoning that ifixit uses to determine it's an A8 is strange. A9 can be deployed as single core, and it can also be a different ARMv7 design entirely. This is all unlikely though.

If benchmarks are showing iPad to be twice as fast as iPhone at non-GPU limited applications then it could very well be running a ~1.2GHz Cortex-A8. That would be more of an enviable thing than an SGX530.

I GOT MY N900!

I just clocked it to 1GHZ and F**K IT IS FAST! I might try 1.2GHZ!!

F**K!

Does anyone know how to take screenshots?

Elanzer: Did you're arrive yet?

Edit:Just got 1150MHZ!

Edit 2: 1.15GHZ is max on my kernel it seems. I put it at 1200000 and 1250000 and 1150mhz is all it does. F**KING AWESOME!
I won't do that again. I will Min CPU down to 250mhz and leave cpu at 600.

^ Congratulations :)
It seems you got a good SoC. You should try the undervolting kernel.

I have no clue what that is or does.
I know it seems obvious: changes voltage lower.. But what's the reason?
Can it be changed dynamically and whenever I feel the need like Titans Power K?

Mali: Seems odd - My n900 runs like a bolt of lightning at 1ghz, but at 1.1ghz it seems slightly slower?
But reliable at 1.1ghz still.

Lower voltages = less heat generation, longer chip life, and better battery life. You might even be able to overclock it a bit while undervolting it to level it out, which leaves you with virtually no consequences if it's stable. Have you run some stress tests or have you just put it under regular use to test the overclock stability?

If all goes well I'll have my N900 on friday and I'll have a new toy to play with too. I like the results I'm hearing.
