Nintendo Versus Emularot Makers

Does anyone remember that story of Nintendo halting the development of an emulator (I think it was a GBA emulator), a good while ago? Or maybe they sued a emulator's developper,... not sure on the details

Could anyone link me to a bit of news?

I am searching for it too, but I in in urgent need. Thanks :)

Emularot? Sounds nasty. Take two paracetamol and see me again in the morning.

I've always questioned that story. CrimsonFire has been a very dubious software house from the start. Most (if not all) of what they release has failed to miss announced release dates (sometimes by several years) if released at all, failed to meet announced specifications, and has been very buggy. GbaZ is a particularly bad offender; it was released long after they said it would be and ran at a fraction of the speed (right now it runs, according to them, at 50-60% on "mid-range" platforms, which are much faster than what the Zodiac was). Which is kind of sad because gpSP and vBagX (both GBA emulators for ARM) both perform much better than that on similar platforms. Even PocketGBA (for PocketPCs) probably does.

But the fact is that they did release it. If Nintendo didn't want them to then there would have been legal action, it's that simple. Combined with the rest of their assortment of lies, I'm compelled to believe that this was nothing more than a publicity stunt to drum up support and possibly an excuse to buy more time.

If this was a true story then it must only apply to commercial emulators, because none of the rest of us have ever gotten a C&D from Nintendo for doing a GBA emulator, even for handhelds.

I think the case is that if Nintendo think you are making money from them via emulation of any of there consoles (regardless of how old), then they'll try and sue for loss of profits, 'encourages piracy', etc. Of course, having a company rather than an individual to sue makes it all the more easier too.

Yeah, Nintendo never announced anything about legal action against emulator authors, and Crimsonfire are (were?) full of shit.

Though i liked their space combat game for the Zodiac. What was it called again?

Oh Peter_R, you're too much.

But I'm guessing he was referring to this:
