Do any of the upper echelons, such as craigix or the evil evil dragon, know just how probable this is?

I will now unnerve you by replying immediately. Almost as if I was lurking, ready to pounce.

Cheers for the brief, but intriguing, update.

can you give any details about what's going to be in it? what am i saying, sure you can! it's not like its the beta to a game or anything....

Well, so far on the agenda was ID3/Playlist support in the music player, supposedly MMU hack support at the kernel level with a switch to turn it on/off (though the preview of the new menu build doesn't show any such option, so it's probably been scrapped) .. I seem to recall something about more formats being supported in the video player, but maybe I was dreaming that.

They'll beef up the eBook reader even though I don't think that many people really use it that much .. we can be SURE of that. It'll probably include some feature no one expected or even considered, like the ability to use USB blenders with a special adapter that doesn't yet exist.

What's the point of the underclocking in the menu to save battery life if you just tie up the CPU doing useless blending effects? Besides, who still wants to use GP2XMenu over gmenu2x?

I think the neon-green screen behind the WHITE TEXT in the Game launcher is more imperitive. (I'd really like to see a progress bar at boot, not just watch the same static image and wonder if it's crashed or I'm being impatient. Not that it crashes often, but it's still strange and unnerving watching it since my unit DID crash every other time Pre-FW 2.0.0).

I'll be happy as long as that horrible puke-green boot screen is gone.

I dont even got that no more, I now have a beautiful Secret of Mana loading screen instead of that green one :)

(how? a closed "beta" app.. If you also want that, i can contact the author about a possible open release. the reason he didnt do that by now is the risk of breaking your gp2x by flashing wrong)

To be honest, other than an mmuhack implementation at kernel level, I'm not entirely sure what I'd want in a new firmware. More speed, I suppose - maybe all the memory optimizations in the menu - but that's only so likely, I think. Where so is not very big.

Playlist support would be cool though. Remove the need to have everything in the same directory or even to play everything in a directory when you only feel like a few songs. Ideally, methinks, treating playlists as directories would be the easiest solution...

I still use the GP2X, rather like it.

Yep, latest beta is working pretty well.
Still some unstable crashes and such things, but the MMU Hack is working again,

Is it in the kernel now? Or do you still have to put it in each program individually? That can be a big hassle for some programs. Especially closed-source ones that no one will/can add it to.

You kidding? The ebook reader is what made me leave my Palm at home during my trip to Spain this summer... It's the number one app that's gotten the most screentime on my gp2x by far!

Then again, I am weird...

Changing screen backlight brightness in the firmware is probably not possible. Animated GIFs would be appallingly slow and use 100% of the CPU at all times with how GPH would implement it-- the menu would drain the battery as much as SquidgeSNES or PSX4All. ... USB Driver? Driver for what? The machine works as a client and its USB Host support works, as do the drivers for most common devices you can attach...

The last part .. yeeeeeah. I like the DS Lite meself .. :( The PSP .. OK, I won't miss that.

here's one more looking forward to an improved eBook reader :)

gph needs to make the standard baud rate for midi (31,250) selectable in the firmware!!! or allow it to be entirely user-setable. the limited baud rates in linux is a left-over from shitty PC serial ports.

other than that it would be nice if the boot time was trimmed down.

edit: anna left gp2x! no wonder we've had no replies over @ the support board    :(
