Um, i dont know if anyones tried mario on gpengine (from goodpce). but i was wondering what was done to make this. was a complete remake or just converted? is it possible to convert roms from some machines to others? i noticed that mario ran so fast on pcengine that i had to change it to 60fps at 133 to run at normal speed. i know that nes emulation is almost perfect now already but for other systems maybe... well just a thought.

It makes sense with the nes to pc engine because the pc engine is twice the power of the nes so if what you are talking about is converting roms from a lower spec console to a higher spect console then yes :D

MAN you guys are thick.

The TG-16 was not "twice as powerful". You cannot sum it up like that. The TG-16 had a vastly improved color depth (256 colors onscreen at once) And the capability to generate larger sprites and limited parallax scrolling. However the CPU and video bus were still 8-bit.

Anyways, no you cannot just auto-convert roms from one machine to run on another. Most likely what you have is an illegal knockoff, made using graphics from the NES games but unique code from some other game. Ever see that Mario game for Sega Genesis, or the Sonic game on SNES? Those were both illegal knockoffs made for a quick buck, most likely in Korea, Hong Kong or Taiwan.

So it was probably just made to generate money for some tiny startup game company in the far east.

Hm... I also have some roms for TG-16 which feature complete NES games.
But, believe me, those ARE the original NES games!
No reprogramming, etc. since graphics, sound, and even bugs are the same...

I think they did it through some kind of emulator...

I'm pretty sure that the NES 10-in-1 thing or whatever it is (I know of it, but I can't be bothered to check it) has been around for ages and quite possibly predates the modern emu scene...or at the very least, it's as old as TG16 emulation itself. FWIW I'm pretty sure it was never on The Dump (which was the first and at the time, best place to get TG16 ROMs, before the IDSA started...well, doing their job). However, I got the ROM somewhere, and all my TG16 ROMs are ancient.

There's a C64 emulator for SNES which falls in a similar catergory. I think it mentions Archaic Ruins - a very apt name, because it's a long long forgotten emulation site from the beginnings of emulation, like 1994-1997 era. My bet is that the NES thing has the same origin as that - perhaps identical (Archaic Ruins also). There certainly isn't a convertor. Also note all the games are on really basic mappers (or no mappers at all).

Oh, and the same basic mapper NES games were ported to SNES individually. This is probably for people with Super Magic Cards (copiers).
