It prevents the rather powerful spring-loaded hinge from flying open and smacking the lid on the desk
Hadn't thought about that. Bit annoying that it'll then prevent you from moving it to 180, if you wanted to (unless you take it off).
It's perhaps a small thing, but something which I think will be very noticeable in daily use, and hinders its uses as multi-purpose device. For example, I wanted to use it for ebook reading and annotating, which I'm not going to do flat on a table. Or watching a movie, as another example.
However, it seems there were legitimate (stupid patents again) issues with the hinge. I did go a long, long time without realising that you could only really lock it at 180.
