"Must haves" for the Pandora?

Ummm, A Pandora would be nice and a must have
Well of course, that's why I'm upgrading to the nice shiny 1ghz unit.
Well, not to talk against the 1Ghz units, but I have not had much thrown at my Rebirth that it could not handle.

Continental Circus and Outrun are the only ones I can think of. Both can be made to work...overclocking to speeds I'm not comfortable with. I never clock more than 800.
Well I have a few things in mind for that extra power. However I'm mostly doing it to support the team.

Also, thanks to everyone who's made suggestions so far.

For Outrun, you can try Cannonball, it play well at 800MHz with default settings.
Thanks!

Grabbed it.  It works great!!

Might want to edit your game description on the Repo, though...let people know that they have to UNZIP the Ourun files to make it work...I saw the little "readme" inside the download which told me what the ROM files wanted to be named...and, sure enough, REVB was missing one of them, got it from RevA.

I clock at 800 by default, and don't change it.  and it works terrific!

Took me a game to figure out how to shift from low to high gear though...LOL
Thanks for the tip, I will change it.
No prob.  Just that most folks would probably be used to using .zip files straight up with a MAME-type game...I didn't even try it, the read me sorta let me know it would be ideal to unzip the file and put all the individual files in the rom folder.  But that wasn't entirely clear.

Vice and some classy C64-games.

The screen (including aspect ratio) seems to be made for this.
Oh, yes, Vice is very nice.

Shoot, i'm a poet and didn't know it! :p

Just was sayoing...the one thing I have gleaned from these boards that 1Ghz is best for is if you are doing it specifically FOR N64 emulation.  That's the one thing that really DOES seem to need the 1Ghz to run well.

Supporting the team is a great thing to do...but I'm wondering the difference in profit margin between the 1Ghz, versus Rebirth.

If you REALLY want to support the team, and don't actually NEED the 1Ghz, you might get a Rebirth, and then make an extra donation with the saved money, and it might actually help the team more than just buying the 1 Ghz version.  But I don't know for sure.

I have a hard time believing there is an extra $200 in pure profit to Pandora...on a sale of 1Ghz, versus sale of a Rebirth.

Not to talk you out of a 1Ghz, if that is what you want and NEED.  But if your motivation is supporting the team...my idea might actually support the team more.

The rebirth is what I currently have actually, I ordered one more or less right away back in February I believe. Now I'm sending it back for a 1ghz.

Although, you just sold me on the 1ghz anyway actually, I loved the n64 so if that extra horse power is needed for it I'd already consider it a good choice. :p

Well, they say on the Boards that that is the area where the 1Ghz helps the most.  I might eventually send my Rebirth back for a 1Ghz, if it wasn't too much extra money, but there would have to be a VERY QUICK SHIP because I'd hate to be without my Pandy for ANY length of time.

I'm only a few states away from where Ithic is located, and I shipped mine back priority. So it shouldn't take long. I found the $300 price to be reasonable personally.
I'll be honest. I have a 1ghz, and it is still really slow... I wish it was faster
Are you talking about n64 emulation specifically?

DosBox and Quemu hugely benefit from the extra-power. Also most other non-gaming related things (browsing, applications ... using a DVB-T usb-stick) run a lot smoother. I recently upgraded from my Rebirth to a 1GHz board and did not regret it.

Even though there are only very few things a 1 GHz unit can do, that a Rebirth or even CC unit can't.

That's pretty much exactly how I've felt and my reasons for doing it.

Now that I've got time to show my Pandora some love I saw that the 1ghz unit could handle Qemu quite a bit better which is something that intrigued me, and I also plan on using my Pandora like a computer, since well.. That's what it is. So the extra grunt is always welcome.

I would like to see a specific comparison of niceties between the main Angstrom port and Slackware on the Pandora.  I know nothing of the useful differences.  I won't use Slackware as a main if it can't run PNDs, for example.
Dude, just read few lines at the description!

eatures :

-full hardware support

-12 window managers, including Xfce-4.10, Minimenu and Enlightenment DR17

-KDE-4.8.5 (512M RAM recommended), installed via internet in two commands

-pnd support

-PNDstore and PNDManager support

-most official Open Pandora setup scripts support

If  you're talking about OTHER features you choosed a bad example.

I sure did, whoops.  Well that's awesome, but as far as I know none of these features are exclusive to Slackware between the two.  I know the pull can't just be the name though, and I can almost remember reading someone suggest Slackware to somebody having trouble using something in Angstrom, once at least.

Slackware also offers a working repository. So you can simply install a lot of stuff like on a normal computer. (Though I have to admit that some of the things available don't really work, like Stellarium (too slow) or Myth-TV (won't start)). Still it offers a lot more possibilities.

If you're happy with what you can do with the .PNDs from the repo I also see no reason to use Slackware (although it is so easy to install there is no reason not to try it just for the heck of it). It becomes really interesting when you want to do more though.

Yes, It is a pnd

This is its wiki, it will probably answer most of your questions, and far better than I could.
Ohy, boy....that sounds hard as all hell!  I could screw it up WAY too easily.  Scares the hell out of me.

You need a win 98 disk, right?

How the hell do you get what's on the disk to go onto the Pandy when you can't hook it to a computer?  Mine never recognized the Pandy.

On Repo:

- Jagged Alliance 2 - Stracciatella.

- Gemrb for playing Baldur's Gate saga, Planescape Torment, etc. All Infinity Engine games.

Gemrb needs a bit of polish but Jagged Alliance works perfectly.
