So with 2006 coming to an end soon, I wanna know:-

How was this years music for you?
Wat bands did u get introduced to for the first time this year and which bands did u drop from ur playlists?
Wat bands met/exceeded ur expectations and which didnt meet them?
And who's new album/single are u most looking forward to?

In my opinion, the music scene did well this year. I got introduced to the likes of Paramore, theSTART, Amber Pacific, June and Damone and went to see HIM in glasgow back in april (which was awesome). I think Evanescence exceeded my expectations this year in terms of music as i was beginning to think that their album wouldnt be up to scratch with 'Fallen.' The offspring were taken off of my playlist this year. After listening to a back catalogue of their songs, I was disappointed that they didn't release a new album and their songs are kinda wearing off.

In terms of next year, I cant wait to hear wat Paramore come up with as well as theSTART's 3rd album. Along with those, HIM's new album and (hopefully) offspring's new one.

well, my selections aren't new to me entirely, I just listened to them more often and got to know they're discographies in greater depth:

The New Pornographers, The Shins, The Cat Empire, Death Cab for Cutie, The Mountain Goats, Bloc Party, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Editors, Ghostland Observatory, Metric, Ok Go, Stars.

okay so this is my current playlist... but hey, if you know of any of these bands and love them, you should check out the rest, if you haven't heard of them!

If the radio stations here didn't suck, I would have better things to say, but all you can get here is whiny emo, filthy rap, bitchy pop, or generic country. Hooray. And my fucking internet is too slow to download music.

For the past year or so, all I listened to was Metallica, and talk radio.

I started listening to underground rap artists, like Busdriver, 2mex, Brother Ali and MF Doom.. as far as 2006 albums, I've only liked 1 :)

Since this year I've pretty much only been listening to videogame music rearrangements and videogame cover bands.

I discovered some great vg cover bands such as the One Ups (jazzy style), Select Start (classical), Project Majestic Mix (trance, ambient), etc.
The scene at ocremix and vgmix has been great too, and several great free remix albums were released at ocremix this year.

I don't listen to metal as much as I used to do, but I still went to several gigs this year, some of which were good (motorhead) and some which were dissapointing.

Offspring's great. Conspiracy of One is one of my all time favorite non-rap albums.
Ugh. Conspiracy is probably their worst album. If you want good Offspring, go back to their days on Epitaph Records. Ignition is one of my favourite albums of all time, and Smash and their self-titled album were both pretty good as well.

This year I got more into droney metal. The new Isis album is fucking great (but I don't know if it was better than Panopticon, that one'll be a tough album to top), and after hearing Pelican's latest one I went through their whole back catalogue. The Other Side Of The Sky put out a great album, too. Less droney, I really liked Melechesh's new album (Sumerian-influenced black metal).

I also went back through some of the older punk bands and got re-acquainted with it. Black Flag's Damaged and Poison Idea's Feel the Darkness are two of the greatest hardcore records of all time, and Agent Orange and the Descendents were my soundtrack for bike-riding over the summer. Also, I finally got around to checking out some bands that I'd heard about a long time ago but never got around to. Good stuff by Gunmoll, Latterman, The Epoxies, Scared of Chaka, etc. make me ashamed that I didn't look into these bands sooner.

I completely avoided the latest trends in music this year, the popularity of indie rock and hipster rock. Anytime I'd heard about a band from someone with shaggy hair and girl jeans, it was a sure sign that nobody would give a shit about them in 6 months when the next cool thing came along.

Basically, after a peronal drought for the last 2 years, 2006 was the year I started caring about music again.

I had a slow year in music, didn't have much luck in finding any new bands that interested me like I did in 2005(great year).

One band exceeded my expections for their second album and that was Billy Talent, the band that didn't meet my expectations with their newest album was Disturbed.

Somebody introduced me to jj72(not sure on the spelling), didn't really enjoy them, but I faked I liked them because I didn't want the girl who told me about them to get all pissy since she adores them.

2005>2006 IMO

I got introduced to some great bands and video games in 2005, hopefully 2007 will be better. Not to mention 2006 dealt me with alot of life problems and what not....now that I think about it f*ck you 2006, I'm glad you're almost over with!!!! <_<

o_O 2006 was okay. i have a pretty bad idea of time, so i'm not sure when 2005 ended in terms of what i was listening to.. but i've got into romanticism (rachmaninoff, debussy, ravel, a bit of tchaikovsky maybe?) oh and JS Bach, i also started getting into latin jazz and salsa in a big way. spinto band, sun ra, junior senior, dungen, ralph towner i'm not really sure.

generally, a decent year. just like 2005. :)

2006 has been a massive change in the music I listen to. Got introduced to Aphex Twin by a mate, which spread like wildfire to Boards of Canada, Bola, Arovane, Squarepusher, etc. And then somehow it spread back into more mainstream with fatboy slim, Mr. Scruff and royksopp (sp?). now i think i listen to more ambient/IDM/electronica than rock and indie, which used to be my main interest.

On stuff released in 2006, muse's new album rocks, i think its my second favourite after Origin of Symmetry, which does surprise me. And i went to see them in november which was chuffin awesomme.

Errrrmm, yeh, think that wraps it up, when was stadium arcadium released? Doesn't matter anyway, the funkier stuff from their earlier days was better.

Oh, also tried to get into Pink Floyd, still not sure what the fuss is about. <_<

After leaving high skool instead of taking my final year before the summer and joining college, I listen to music so much. My playlist contains over 100 artists and bands and every day i continually find more that I like.

I found out about:

-Ladytron
-Black Sun Empire
-DJ Fresh
-The Moby Remix Album

and allot other great artists. Mostly DnB and Electronica artists. All that videoclip-music sucks (most) and the hip-hop/RnB kinda stuff is growing more and more day by day, but I REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW AND WHY <_<

Edit: Tell me, ...if you dare ;)

I got into music this year - before I just passively obtained a few things I heard on the radio. I like unsigned acoustic artists mostly, and I'm not a great fan of rap at all. I prefer musicians like D.C. Simpson, 7 Seconds of Love, Jonathan Coulton and Josh Woodward.
