Hi Guys
Well my other C64 breadbin just bit the dust, after an afternoon repairing a data drive and ordering the bits to start saving wav files of my fave software, and getting ear ache about making a mess and not packing up the xmass tree; I got halfway through loading Way of the Exploding Fist (amazed the tape worked) and the C64 black screened on me. it will reboot but then dies after a few mins with characters dissipating and black cubes dancing around the screen.
However, all may not be lost I brought a C64dtv a couple of years ago at a car boot for a couple of quid.

and have discovered they can be hacked and modded - I just wondered if any of you guys have tried any of this, as I am thinking of having a go of putting some of my fave software on there. i have seen a few knocking about on ebay if anybody else fancies a go and may pick up another for myself to mod and give to a friend as a present. Not sure i could do it without some help though, but fingers crossed.

do you think i could use the parts from my old breadbins?
has anybody done this already?

If you haven't found this yet, you may want to take a look at the DTV hacking forum over at PETSCII.com

I think the DTV is really cool, but since it doesn't have a SID I don't think I would ever fully replacing my C64 with one.

I've got two of these, a PAL and an NTSC version. You should really get yourself a 1541-III DTV by Jussi Saily! He's still making them, got mine about 1 month ago from him. A 1Gb micro-sd should be sufficient to store all C64 games ever made!

Take a look at this mod, it's like what I'm planning to do with my PAL unit once I have some spare time.

The good news is that it's still possible to hook up an original datasette to the DTV.

You can contact Jussi through his thread on the Petscii forum.

You're welcome. My 1541-III came completely built-up, neatly packaged in antistatic foil and a padded bag complete with everything needed to install, a reset button and installation instructions. But you still have to solder it yourself. Since the C64 DTV doesn't have any expansion ports, every mod requires soldering.

Btw. the 1541-III has provision for connection of a Nokia 3310 display which makes it possible to select a disk image from the card by pressing buttons (not included) until the right image pops up.

I have been waiting for my account to be confirmed for ages, can anybody poke a mod there for me - same username

I've got a very nice condition C64c with the slim 5.25" drive. I've actually been considering getting rid of it, and picking up a DTV... You really can't beat original hardware, but I just don't have the space.

C64 black screening -> Check the fuse inside the C64. It might have blown
