Hello,

i should received my GP2x tomorrow and i'll not have time to buy SD till saturday.
I have a lot of MMC and all periphirals i had before which were expecting SD worked also with MMC.

Does someone know if it works with GP2x too or if i'll have to wait till saturday to use my new "baby"

bye

You know, you're going to give the mods a lot of work, having to move threads back and forth. You're in the GP32 section.

MMC should work, SD is backwards compatible, but with the 128 meg limit on MMC cards you're not going to fit much on it.

MMC's (for the most part, not tested THAT many) DO NOT work with the GPH/DignSys SD driver code but they do work with Rob Browns SDK2X (HH) SD code (not that it matters) yet ;).

MMC's do NOT have a limit of 128MB, MMC's are an older version of SD without DRM on-card. There are MMC's of 1GB and larger.

Do you mean there's several GP2x, some which will accept MMC and some which won't?

What is the hardware of the last gp2x?

MMC cards do work (well they do on v1.1.0) i used one for a while a 128meg bytestor i know have a 512 panasonic SD card but MMCs work fine :D also MMCs go up to 1gb (last time i checked :D) anyways have fun :D

Although I haven't tried it myself, I've heard that you can't do "standard" firmware updates from an MMC card ("standard" meaning putting a file on there and letting the GP2X do it for you... in theory, you should still be able to get a firmware update to work from the homebrew updaters).

How does MMC compare with SD in terms of speed, I'm guessing it's slower what with having only 4 pins.

I had a new Hi-speed MMCplus 4.0 card

It Definately didn't like it.

Have a look On Wikipedia under the MMC 4.x section.

They say up to and including 2GB by the way, and I hope a firmware update gets around to supporting MMC sometime because you don't need the DRM just to run all the stuff we have been running and MMC is cheaper.

Oh, btw it was a 100x

No, MMC (and SD) cards are not all equal. There are a lot of mini-standards within the spec that different cards follow. Some work, some don't in the case of MMC's. It is I would suspect down the MMC/SD driver DignSys use not being 100% standards compliant for both the MMC and SD specs.

Do you think using an MMC card could brick a GP2X?

'Cause I'm getting my '2X today (already been delivered, waiting to pick it up), and I just realized that I don't have any SD cards handy, but I have this old Renesas 32meg card that came with one of my old MP3 players.

-BTW Long time reader, first time poster. Hey everyone in GP2X land!

I don't really see any way that it would wreck your GP2X... I think the worst case would be if the machine crashed and you'd just have to reboot. You're probably safe.

Thanks. I figured that could be it, but it would just suck to brick my GP2X within the first day I've had it.

iDaniel: Nice to see your unit will arrive today... honestly... you won't be dissapointed!

It's here right in front of me right now ...

but unfortunately the MMC card didn't work, so now I have to wait to go buy an SD card <_< . Gah I want to play some SNES games and watch some vids.

Don't I know it. I wanted to use mine last Christmas. My MMC doesn't work either. I don't yet have the funds for a proper SD. Maybe next Christmas.

Justin.

Just to report on MMCs working, I have a Hama 1GB MMC that works fine, the only problem I have with it is that the transfer rate is dirt slow compared to SD, other than that, no problem at all.

One thing that suprises me is that all my SD cards work on my GP2X, but one of them refuses to work on my Tapwave Zodiac - it just says "unrecognised card", so the GPH/Dignsys implementation can't be /that/ bad :)
