I think porting some of these could prove quite useful:
Real Media Player
Modplug
XMMS
OpenSPC
Totem

Just a few ideas... I don't know how to port, so I can't do them (although I would gladly do so if I could :D )

SPC files and MODs are supported by OldPlay already. You should browse the file archive. ;)

I'd personally like psf,usf support in an audio player... but that type of coding is a bit too technical for me .>_>

Personally, I like TCPMP. It's already been proven to run well on several portable systems, and it would probably run very well on the GP2X.

Videos will never run very well on the GP2X unless you use the built-in decoder. Audio is a different matter, of course.

(Well I'm glad I used a search on this subject) If TCMP can be ported to GP2x and use both processors then I wonder how well the .ogm and .mkv format run because darn it I really want to watch my animes on it once I get myself a GP2x ofcourse ;-p.

It might be off topic but how well does the GP2x run with h.264 encoding of .avi format because heck even my modded xbox has hard time runing that with lots of framskips lol. I know the last question probably deserve a b1tch slap since I assume h.264 takes alot of processing power and heck I wouldn't even ask about hdwmv format since wmv isn't really supported yet on what I read on the forum.

The gp2x has a mpeg4 decoder inside it's guts that has all manner of potential applications, but we don't know enough about it yet to properly harness them. When gph releases the source to mplayer things may become clearer, with any luck. When more is understood about this processor (with the 2x, in this case it isn't just about processessing power) it's quite possible h.264 will work, as I believe it is an mpeg4 variant.

Well yea for their mplayer but I was talking about the TCMP media player if someone could port that.
Regardless I still think it wouldn't work like it should and probably would be a battery hog.
