Mame

This version has emulated sound, but it looks like the sounds are simulated rather then emulated.  Using a different version of Mame would make no difference.  Let me look into it for a bit and see what comes of it.

MAME is weird. I mean we have Megadrive full speed with full sound, Doom and BOR with sound, but Phoenix, Zaxxon and Donkey kong from the early 80's are slow with full sound

I wonder what MAME is doing to slow it down so much?

thing is, the original mame guys state that 'playability' is just a nice side effect, and that their number one priority for MAME (ie. like its "prime directive") is 'accuracy' of emulation, in terms of accurately emulating all the functionality as much as possible, and sod the performance ;)

So, other arcade emu's like Raine or Final Burn run some of the same games a LOT faster, because they have a different aim or "raison d'etre", which is: heavily optimise to make games as playable as possible.

Hey Lazrhog. How is your progess with your implementing sound to Phoenix activities? Are you still working on that or is it just hopeless?

Nah, it's not hopeless. I just have craploads of stuff on the go, so I just get an hour here and an hour there. I'll let you know if I get any closer this weekend.
