Anyone know of a utility that can do a batch zipping of files in a folder? Say I had a folder with 100 jpegs in it, I'd like to be able to run a utility that would create 100 zip files - one for each jpeg. If I could set the utility to truncate the filenames down to 8.3 that would be even better.

Obviously I would never dream of using this for zipping up loads of NES roms ;)

Yup, use winrar. Highlight and right click the files. Right click and select "add to archive". Go to the "files" tab and tick the box "put each file into seperate archive".

I think winzip lets you do it again, but I use winrar so I know how that works B).

Edit: Theres a program that renames files to 8.3 format if that's what you need. The program is called gp32renamer I think but I can't be sure. I deleted it off my pc just the other day as I have no use for it with my cardreader.

well, not sure if the following program is able to do that "seperate archive thingy, but you can have a look. Try google search for "Zip Genius". it can handle zip, czip, rar, cab, tar, tat, tgz, 7zip and a whole lot more.

Cheers - that's perfect. I had actually spent a while trying to do it with the command line in WinRAR and I could have just done it easily all along. Ah well.

Thanks again.

beside from your question, I want to mention that zipping Jpeg images has no or very small use. Because a jpeg image is already highly compressed.

No, it can't do it (yet).
I requested it, but no one had an idea why it could be useful... so maybe it won'T be implemented at all...

BTW: It's www.zipgenius.it
