It's not a flaw. It's a design choice. And you only noticed this now? This is such a small issue (many people, including myself, would debate that it even rates as an "issue") that it's not worth getting all upset about.
Tip: Don't buy an iPod. You'll get very upset.
LMAO!!! Tybo you just got pwned dude.

It makes perfect sense to have the headphone jack at the top of an iPod since most people who own one stick the thing in their pocket, and don't look at the screen very much. It's a shorter distance from the top of your pocket to your ears than it is from any other point inside your pocket. It would be inconvienent to have the input on the bottom, since the cord would have to reach several more inches than necessary to reach your ears.
I know it sounds trivial, but the engineers who designed the iPod put that into consideration when they made it, which is why the jack is on the top.
On the Nintendo DS, Gameboy Color, and NeoGeo Pocket (and probably PSP, though I don't own one so I'm not sure) the headphone jack is on the bottom of the handheld, and it's for the exact reason I said in my first post. It's less likely to get in the way of your vision from the bottom, and you don't have to wrap it around the back of the unit (like in BlackDayz's illustration) because that would shorten the amount of slack the cord has.
I think I have a valid point, and I agree, it's not a major issue, but it's still a mistake that could have been avoided.
