Probably just a pipe dream but it would be great if someone could work out a way to allow internet access on the GP2X as it uses linux as the OS. I know its not a powered USB port but could there be a way round this?

Possibly by plugging the gp2x in the pc and using the gp2x as some sort of gateway for internet access.

Maybe if drivers for SDIO are made.. Then you need a browser.. and yeah time will tell.

hmm we would have get on on of this things working:
USB Ethernet, WIFI
SDIO WIFI
both are really not easy, a webrowser is not a problem, you just have to get nanox or something like this working then you could just use arm binaries of dillo or links

I was thinking more of using a wireless network via the USB port and the TV out feature would make browsing easier. Fair bit of work would need to be done.

I'll wait and see - my GP2X should be arriving soon from GBAX!

the usb port if is setted in passive mode permit only to look the gp32x as a device i think, i don't think you have a usb_module or sub support under linux on gp32x.
(i hope i wrong).

but sdio will be a way (you have to loose space on SD card obviously)

Maybe I'm tired, but that last sentence makes no sense.

Unless it means that since there are only small SDIO wifi cards, 256MB or something, currently...

You're right on the money. There's only 256MB cards available.

replace loose with lose

OMG people its not that hard! If you plug in a wifi sdio card then you obviously cant use your other sd card because you will have the wifi card plugged in meaning you can only use internal memory. Unless of course you buy the wifi+ 256mb card that does both. But still 256 isnt that much.

What you're saying makes perfect sense but only because you're stating the obvious ;)

Anyway, 256MB isn't that bad and it's not like you can't swap cards if you need it.

Your exactly right but only because your stating the obvious ;)

Yeah but swapping cards just becomes a pain (YES IM LAZY). And 256mb IS bad. With 2gb sd cards 256mb is not that much at all. But I guess if your talking about just applications 256 isnt that bad. But for media such as mp3 music, and video then its horible. Anyway once again I just stated the obvious and agreed with you in some ways. Oh well.

I agree that 256 MB is kind of weak. You could have the 256 MB card for the internet and 2 gb for everything else. Having two cards would not be terrible. Of course I am comming from the GP32 where I have over 10 cards full of stuff so I am used to swapping.

If SDIO WiFi ends up happening then I would probably only use it for internet browsing and possibly an irc client. I've never been interested in multiplayer gaming. So for what I want I could use the 64MB internal and not worry about having memory on the WiFi card.

If someone made a web browser that would work with the TV-out cable AND ran at a high resolution then it would be worth using. Browsing the internet on a 320X240 screen sucks <_< I've tried it on my Ipaq PPC. Even a higher resolution screen like my Zodiac or my PSP is still too small to make it worth while. But if the resolution going out to the TV is 640X480 or so then that wouldn't be so bad.

same here, i would want a 256mb plus sido wifi card , the memort to hold stuff i would pull of the net and a browser/irc client not much else, have a gig card for everythng else
