intel optane (3d Xpoint) - super fast non-volatile memory


If this lines up with stuff they said two years ago (http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1327289) then it could be very interesting indeed. I don't think they've published endurance details, i.e. number of write cycles yet though.

As with you, this is not in my price point yet, nor my ideal form factor for that matter, but it's the first public release of this stuff then it should drop and rapidly, assuming there's not something fundamentally broken about it.

Damn stupid name, mind you. Micron's previous X-point stuff was made of standard NAND flash with integrated CMOS controllers, and was 3D already. So it's always possible this is actually more of the same stuff, and not as they previously announced.
