Intel Making Arm Like Processor?

I can't quite wrap my mind around it, is this x86 or arm-like? Will the be able to run android and windows you think? I can't quite tell, it doesn't specifically say so. It would be a good contender for a mobile handheld's cpu either way it sounds like.

says no windows support yet, but it doesn't say if it's impossible or not, looks really promising though, check out those battery life estimates
 
It's another Atom, definitely not ARM. Most of it is not very different from what Atom has been saying for a while. Like usual, Intel puts more emphasis on idle power than typical or peak. Don't be fooled by their numbers for browsing or video - neither represent heavy CPU load.

Being Linux-only, they also lose most of their platform advantage.. although things may get interesting once people start running Wine on it.

I think 45nm OMAP4SoCs are going to trounce Z6xx in both performance and power consumption.

I am very excited at the recent changes in the smartphone market. Android, AMOLED, HSDPA, touchscreens, fast processors and lotsa RAM...
Although it's hardly possible to find a good replacement for the N95 in terms of functionality I guess I will soon have to become weak and get one of those shiny display only phones. Theres just too many insufficiencies atm when comparing different models. or theyre just plain too expensive. lets see if this new processor line makes th emarket more interesting

So you can't run Windows on them, but WINE will work? Curious...

that's pretty neat, cheap too, kinda reminds me of my old pentium II with the cpu "card", but that wasn't exactly the question I guess I was getting at, I was wondering if it was non-86 basically, arm, qualcom or something similar to those. Something that would be a total pain in the ass to run windows on.

It is confirmed that little guy is x86 after reading the comments and looking into it some more. Putting x86 linux or windows on it supposedly won't be much trouble either, if what I read was correct, can't wait to see this little guy in a smartphone someday.

This is defiantly x86 and not arm. Intel is getting somewhat competitive by using tricks like using the latest manufacturing processes and having dedicated chips to do things like video and 3d. Its kinda pathetic that intel is still behind in handheld processors.

well their main focus has been server and desktop processors for as long as I've been alive, and for laptops for about half as long, it's only been recently last 5 years or so that smartphones and handhelds have really even been a major push, I'd say give them time they'll produce.

Getting x86 competitively low power is not merely a matter of effort and attention. I would think at this point that Intel is trying at least as hard as anyone else, if not much more so. x86 is just at an inherent disadvantage by supporting a complex instruction set that's difficult to decode and has a lot of legacy operations that waste die space. These disadvantages don't mean what they used to but IMO are still costing them.
