If You Want A Pandora

I agree with you, Hobbyman. The first post sounds like the poster is the one who put this offer on eBay. If he is, it should be moved to marketplace. If he is not the seller, it should be removed because it might be a scam. The original poster might also be a scammer himself, who knows. People who want a Pandora should contact the OP team, imo. When it actually ships, it's a different story, though. Some Pandoras will pop up on eBay and that's perfectly ok.

Edit:
Gruso says it. It smells a little fishy.

Even if it's a bulk order, with eBay and Paypal fees these days surely he will be making a loss selling them at that price?

The cynic in me is screaming scam. But you never know.

If I recall correctly, it was forbidden to order more than one Pandora at the preordering day (long long time ago) in order to give everyone else a chance to get one.
The idea of a reseller could be logical if it wasn't that there isn't need for any: any Pandora that becomes available will probably get reordered by someone that lost their place back then, or is just new to the trip.
Once a second or third batch comes to be, there might be enough excess of Pandoras for a reseller, but right now, everything can get sold either with mails or through the OP webpage.

Either that or someone (related to the OP team) better get to explain all this before people starts doing regrettable things.

the seller seems to have a decent history and feedback, although there's a big gap in the history, but he seems legit, from the comments, we know his name is Phil and he comes from York, BUT, there is a potential for scamming, for one, his history up to now seems to be all small items and bit's and bobs that people normally sell on Ebay, most of it's not particularly high cost either, then suddenly he has a whole host of brand new consoles to sell, long periods of quite followed by sudden activity, with just one recent transaction, it might just be a dormant account that's been hacked, that would be the best way to get a history without actually trading, might be best to just have it brought to the attention of Craig, he should know if he sold 50 units to someone called Phil in York

on the other hand, he lists the ATI 4 head video card as Linux compatible (Linux is not listed by ATI on their boxs ,I know), which would go with a tech geek background, so may be legit, or a geeky fraudster.

hard call, but if he paid/will have the units then he can do as he pleases with em IMO

I pre-ordered 2 on pre-ordering day, so you were definitely allowed to pre-order more than 1 (I don't think OP set an exact number, but, IIRC, they said something along the lines of if they saw somebody pre-order Pandoras in large quantities, OP wouldn't let the order through). But yeah, I don't think OP would have allowed a pre-order of 10+ units (at least at that time and at least in one single order).

The original idea was to limit orders to one or two, but that was only while they planned to limit the first batch to 3k. Once they decided to take as many orders as they could until the cutoff, the restriction was lifted.

I just checked the ebay item. I wouldn't buy one. I'm pretty sure that the UK trading laws are controlled by the EU, like in Germany, too. The seller plays with fire and might burn himself.

If he really did pre-order 50 pandoras since the start then good for him. Doing so has helped finance the project and I don't think a lot of people at that time would have been able to risk paying and losing the price of 50 pandoras.

If it is legit then it looks quite tempting for anyone not already preordered and if there are no longer any slots free. You're getting it for less than what OP are currently charging and most likely you're getting an early spot in the queue as he must have preordered when they were £200+vat.

Added a note to the first post that this hasn't been confirmed legitimate or illegitimate. I'll change it if we find out one way or the other.

Worse however is, that he blocks free spots which could be taken by other developer right now (50 units... if these were 3 I would talk different about it).
He didn't block any spots when he first ordered. They were taking and agreeing to fill as many orders as they could. Anyone that wanted one could have one. If anything, by ordering so many he actually helped more than hindered. It's not his fault release has been pushed back by a year and only now are spots really getting tight.

someone find out who this is and cancel his order. Not in the spirit of pandora.
Agreed.
Why? This guy had the cohones to put up 11500 GBP or so with the faith that it would pay off. Do you have that much faith in the project? Would you put up 10000 GBP for an unsure thing, and have the guts to keep it there for a year while waiting for release?
Didn't Craig and company start making the Pandora because they wanted to capitalize on the market of people that wanted a good, open, handheld console? Is making money not in the spirit of Pandora, or do you have some other legitimate complaint?

Tbh, it's rather moot to discuss if it's legitimate to buy 50 units and sell them on eBay, because it's really not certain, if this offer is legitimate by itself. It might not be nice to criticize the ebay description for its rather broken English, but the seller is not even a commercial seller. Having a 12k pounds item and no legal information is very dubious.

An eBay scam is an important part of the development of any product. So we can check that off on the roadmap. Yeah!

:lol: +1
Btw, I've just reported the item. Let's see what happens.

I think this topic is getting way to much attention. Whomever this seller is, he has the right to list a pre-order item on Ebay. If it runs over the time period of 20-30days, that is an issue between Ebay, Paypal, the seller, and the buyer. Until someone here has proof of scam or otherwise, they should not comment to Ebay. This is how trouble gets started. Openpandora is way late with there preorder ship date, and I don't think anyone has reportrd them to an higher athority, so why do it to someone who appears to be selling a legit item, in a legit auction. I have sold thousands of items on ebay over the years, and I intend to sell my extra Pandora's as well. I don't need Ebay "Red Flagging" anything with Pandora in the listing when the time comes(which I assure you will happen), just because a handful of persons can't make an adult and informed decision in regards to online auctions! That is why ebay has feedback, and paypal offers buyer protction. The few times I have never received an item, my money has "ALWAYS" been refunded!

I can't act differently. My concerns are twofold.
1. I don't want fellow pandorians to be scammed.
2. I do eBay for a living and anyone who doesn't play by the rules gets kicked in the ass, as I want/need a clean marketplace.
Also, if the item gets kicked off eBay, it's even in the interest of the seller, who obviously doesnt know the rules.

Honestly I would try to contact the OP team before trying ebay... I've been ripped off there before.
if (ripped_off) {
file("dispute");
recv(&money);
}

That was like 6 years ago.

I don't want any Pandora members scammed either, but let's be real. If anyone was looking at warning signs for a scam, this whole project would look like one on the service! I believe in it 110%, but I know allot of people don't, and that is there right. I also sell for a living on Ebay, and there system is broken and in need of fixing on many levels. There customer service is nonexistent. There whole infastructure is set up to be ran by as little human interaction as possible. I have had several auctions ended by Ebay, simply because of wording I have used that set off "Red Flags" in there system! A human doesn't decide if the listing is right or wrong, there computer system does(and that is the problem). When you try and argue your case, all you get is a prewriten reply that reads like it came from a robot, and in the long run, it probably did! So all I'm saying is, when the time comes for me to list my units, any complaints and problems related to the Pandora will just cause allot of headaches that aren't needed, just so a few people are saved the heartache of buying some"Magic Beans". If members can't tell scam from reality, I don't think they would have bought a Pandora, or hung around with a preorder for "Well Over A Year"! That's just my 2 cents!

I get your point, jumpman, and I also support live and let live. If that seller sells a few dozens of non existent items and then Paypal pulls out the truncheon he will weep like a baby. He/she is obviously an idiot and should do something else. Or he/she is a scammer. Whatever, it's pretty much irrelevant. Thinking that eBay will red-flag all future Pandora offers is unrealistic. I agree that eBay's service is improvable, but I always get what I want. Usually the first reply is randomly generated, but the second reply is usually made by a human. You just need a little patience ;)
