Hi, I've had this idea kicking around my head for many many years. But I haven't really been able to influence it on the world of PC/Win33 emulators. I'm hoping that this community is more open to suggestion! :)
Basically you IPS patch roms in realtime on load (no big surprise here, but please wait...) My suggestion is enforce a standard that means if you name your ROMs/IPSs as such:

Mario.smc
Mario.English.ips
Mario.Spanish.ips
Mario.Hard_Mode.ips

... You can choose the IPSs as if they were a Separate ROM. And they all have the same root ROM in their title.

That's the basic idea. With the PC emulators my original thought was a menu could pop up listing the different IPSs for that ROM, but I think just listing them alltogether could work well too.

Any thoughts?

Just patch it on the PC with LIPS.

No offense or anything, it's a pretty good idea, but I think there are bigger fish to fry with SNES emulation right now (overall speed, sound bugs, compatibility, etc).

I didn't make this thread to guage priority. Indeed in the terms of SNES emulation I would prefer if devs focussed their time on getting speed up. This idea is a general suggestion for all emulators, although I brought it up in the SquidgeSNES thread seeing as it was more likely to be seen there.

And about the suggestion about patching... I already patch what I want to play... That's not the point. Even ZSNES only applies the one IPS patch in realtime. Anyway no offence taken (and hopefully none given...) but please just comment on the idea as an entity, rather than trying to prioritise for the devs. :)

Are you saying this because you want to free up a little space or because patching is a waste of time when this is possible?
Seems like a nice idea but I'm not too sure that its worth the time making the code or whatever (if it is much bother that is....)

Both the reasons you just mentioned. It would take less space to have the patches and one ROM rathen than several patched ROMs. It is also more convenient to remove the need to fire up an IPS patching program to play that ROM.

Anyway, with regard to feasability... Notaz said with the SNES emulator that the SNES9X source has the patching ability. What needs doing is just loading the patches in a way that permits multiple patches per rom. I don't think it's the most difficult of tasks to implement, and if I was knowledgeable enough I would do it myself. But I'm not quite up to scratch when compared to people such as Notaz, Squidge, Reesy etc.

Like I said it seems like a nice idea, if a developer is up for this I will definatly use this feature
