oooo. Tough question and is heavily based on opinion.

Dev Cpp will definitely be the easiest out of the three main ones to set up and use for beginners (it also helps that GPH released a SDK with it pre setup).

VC++ EE is by far the most powerful and feature rich for development but is a large download (around 200-500mb).

Codeblocks (Nightly builds) is a medium between the two. Lightweight but boasts many features and is what I am currently using.

Edit: I am assuming this is for Windows.

Correct this is for windows. I guess I will give codeblocks a try. I am a beginner as in the only code I have ever written was in html.

I am trying to choose between these three and was wondering which ones most devs here use.

Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition

Dev-C++

CodeBlocks

Ohnoo it's the modern version of the vi vs emacs topic!

I'm using dev-cpp, mainly because it's already setup. They major problem I find with it is that it cannot do block tabs (select a part of text and tab/untab it) can the other IDEs do that? (was planning to look at codeblocks but haven't had the time yet)

I use a DOS box (or CMD prompt or whatever they call it these days) to type 'make' and VIM to edit the code.

It's not integrated though!

What version do you have ? dev-cpp 4.9.9.2 supports tabbing of multiple selected lines. It also supports column selection which can also be tabbed.

I still use '10 rem' statement and hard coded hex. Whoops, another flash back to the old days of copying games out of mags.....

10 rem 20,ab,bc,23,00,ff,..................................

:D

Wierd, no mather wat I try I don't get it to tab multiple lines, it always overwrites the text... version 4.9.9.2.
(I also dislike the search funtion, because it doesn't wrap around the file)
