Frame dropping isn't usually a problem in high 3-d PC games, but sprite based games where every movement is a completely different drawn graphic it makes a huge difference.

... The only games where that would really be needed is games like fighting/competition games, where slowdown can be very costly... I can play the sonic games at 1/3 speed no problem...
However, I have to overclock Noiz2sa just to make sure it doesn't have slowdown in some of the hectic parts!
In all honesty, stop worrying about vanity. Take what you can get.

So I returned it and read up on the GP2x. I was very interested in the original GP32 until I heard SNES would never be possible on it at an acceptable framerate. Now there's a new version called the GP2x, and I am interested in it again.
SNES will probably get close to full speed with sound but no transparencies. The CPU is just not quick enough at 200 MHz for all of those effects. If SNES is the only reason you would want it then no it isn't for you. There alot of other emus that are great or will be great though including Genesis and even NeoGeo. It is still worth getting for the other stuff if you can tolerate SNES emulation that isn't perfect. I have a PSP and I don't use it for emulation for the reasons you stated like the crappy blurred out screen stretching and smearing. The Gp2X doesn't suffer from the smearing or ghosting of the PSP and most emus run full screen or close to it at 1:1 especially Genesis and NeoGeo.
The GP2X is a great emulation handheld, there really is no better when you take everything into consideration. But they all still have their flaws.

You said they can't source the LCD....so they're going to replace it? Do you now when exactly?
I really hope they don't use the BLU+ ones. After looking at the GP2X for so long I looked at the BLU and the screen was so dim, the colors faded and the blacks washed out. Time to stock up on backup current models if they do use those screens.
I'm 100% sure that we will have full playable snes emulation, with transparency, soon enough. Not necessarily at fs0, but it will certainly be playable enough.
Guys that don't believe into it would have probably said that something like donkey kong country would have been impossible on the snes, back in 1991 ... Also, do tou remember how crappy were the ps2 games the first year of the ps2 ? They can't even compete with some dreamcast games ! Now look what is possible to do with the help of some very talented coders ...
ok, but what range of FPS can we get now? I don't care about full speed, 24-30 is enough, and fs 1-2 isn't bad, especialy that i want to play RPGs most, but that's what i can't find anywhere
