With E3 just two months away, fans of the videogame 'Sonic the Hedgehog' are faced with the prospect of their favourite character failing to attend E3 for a second year in a row. Dispite good fan reaction to the upcoming game in the series 'Shadow the Hedgehog', a game based around one of the blue icon's arch-nemesii, several parents' groups have complained to sega that the game's psychotic anti-hero, Shadow was 'Unacceptable in these troubled times'.
Due to this "unforseen parental opposition", Sega has ended production of the highly anticipated game, releasing a statement at a press conference. "Regarding the game, Shadow the Hedgehog, we have ended production. We hope the mothers of America will forgive our mistake, and continue to buy SEGA products for their children."
"I find it rediculous" said one such concerned adult, posting on the 'MAVIA' (Mothers against Violence in America') message boards "that so close to the school shooting at Red Lake a company can be producing a game that makes being psychotic and carrying a gun look cool to children!"
"Not to mention," another similarly troubled parent added, "that playing as the 'bad guy' basically tells kids that terrorism is good fun, that it's just a game."
This is not the first time Sega has disappointed their fans in favour of their parents, however. Back in 1999, following the infamous columbine massacre, Sega scrapped plans to release light-guns (a form of gun based controller) for their Dreamcast home console system. Luckily for fans of 'House of the Dead', the leading gun-game on that system, third-party companies were at hand to produce the items. The sonic fans of today will not be so lucky.
However, a SEGA inside source suggested that plans are already underway to replace the offending article 'Shadow' and his pistol with Sonic's much more child-friendly girlfriend figure 'Amy the Hedgehog', complete with her trademark mallet. Sega refused to comment on these plans however, saying "We cannot release further information at this time."
