Hi,
Im sure this has been about before in some form but i cant find any help. I've broke my GP2X. Well not really broke but i lost the joystick. I have no idea how it happened or where it went but it makes it very hard to use.

What i would really like to know is if there is anywhere i can get any sort of replacement for it? or any other devices i can steel one off. I've been using a Dreamcast VMU direction control and a piece of tape. It gets the job done but not too well.

Any help would be very appriceated!

I made a great stop gap joystick with a bic biro (the cheap clear ones) Click here for Pic (preferably black :) )
1. Take the plug out from the end of the bic, need to break pen to remove nowadays, as its glued in. Remove all remnants of pen from it.
2. Cut the end off from the refill (the part with no ink in.)
3. Slightly melt the end of the refill over a flame and slide into plug, so it forms nicely inside. Hold straight till cooled
4. It will slide back out easily, so just glue it in there, then cut off excess refill sticking out, leave maybe 3 mm.
5. Push over joystick shaft. I have done 3 of these for myself and friends. They all love it!

Edit. Just realised, we are in GeePee32 Forum. This needs moving to GP2X Forum. Oh well. Hope this helps though. B)

The old "I have no idea how it happened or where it went" lost joystick story. You ate it, didn't you?

Are you kidding? He'd eat that one in less time than he ate the last one. ;-P

In all honesty though, the thumbstick really seems to be a major drawback on the GP2X. If/when mine breaks, if it's no longer in warranty, I think it might be a better idea just to put a D-Pad on there somehow. Maybe get a broken Game Boy or something for the parts.

Also, is the control stick analog? In my experience it's seemed to behave in a very you're-going-in-this-direction-or-not manner. It is possible that that's just the programs I've been running, but even the app only displays an on/off signal for each direction. Also, sometimes I get a combination of a horizontal and diagonal direction the register simultaneously (i.e. left and left-down.) Is this just me, or a global phenomenon?

This is what im using at the moment. Not the most usable of controls as it is.

the joystick is digital, it has 8 directions plus diagonals. also it hurts.

My stick did fall off, and I resolved it with just a small bead of hot glue on the top. It's soft enough to not hurt my thumb, and the fact that I can see EXACTLY which direction I'm thumbing in is kind of nice.

UPDATE: The hot glue fell off, so I'm trying it again with a drop of solder, which seems to have fused a bit better with the stick. Doing this is kinda difficult, at least for me, and I highly recommend putting something around the sitck itself to keep the solder from going where it shouldn't. I used a piece of wax paper, which worked excellently.

I got myself a replacement stick from davec, and its awesome! much better than the origionaL. MUCH MORE EASY TO USE, thanks!
