Hudway

I feel like that wouldn't work unless you have a very clean windshield (I.e. no weather, just left the car wash) and a huge ass phone.

I think it really does rely on the low-visibility conditions, like night time or fog, which would cause the reflected screen to show better... and those type conditions being when it is most dangerous to take eyes away from the windscreen, so the HUD method is better option.

I'd have to see it though, is just a reflection really isn't it, using reversed white on black so shows up on the reflection.

If it's free on Android I'll probably d/l it and give it a go

How does it work?

Mobile phones don't have a projector?

If it's just a reflection of the Phone's screen then I think it won't work well.

exactly. The whole premise of an HUD in the car is cool, but you need a better projector than just the phone's screen. I remember this redamentary projector from instructables that might make this thing a lot better.

BRB imma find the link

Yeah I think this one is just using the windscreens reflection really. So the app is high contrast, using white text/lines on black, then reverses the image so the true image is seen in the reflection on the windscreen.

Pretty much useless I would imagine on a sunny day, or even any condition aside from fog or nighttime

Hmm I don't think you want a projector. Projectors are for projecting onto matt surfaces, wheras you've got reflective glass in this case. You're better off observing a reflected screen, like they're proposing.

The only trouble they might have is that if the angle between the phone screen and the wind screen is too close to its normal, most of the light from the phone screen will pass straight through the glass. It depends on the rake of your screen and your exact seating position whether a phone put close enough to the glass to get significant reflections is visible to you.

You might do better if you stick a clear plastic sticker on the spot where you see the phone reflected in the glass. The different RIs of the plastic and the glass may cause greater reflection back to you, though it's too long since I did the maths to confirm this.
