Just wondering if any (hopefully free) programs out there that allows you to list the contents of a folder as a text file? I'd prefer to stay away from command prompt/ dos if possible. Just a quick select folder and show contents as text would be perfect. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Good luck finding an app with a GUI for doing that :p

It's just one of those Über simple things that you don't need a GUI for.

Simply cd into the folder you want to print into a txt file. For example if you want to print the contents of c:/My Porn/ you would type 'cd c:\My Porn'.
Then to print the contents to a txt file you type 'dir > nameofthetxtfileyouwanttoprintto.txt'

Hope it helps :)

Utilities that show you the size of a directory tree usually save a text report of a directory (and Tree!)
e.g. http://www.jam-software.com/freeware/index.shtml#treesize
[disclaimer] This is the first likely that google found. I haven't tried it. Just a quick look at the screenshot says it might. But it'll give you an idea of the sort of thing you should be looking for ;) [/disclaimer]

Thanks for replies.

I tried that treesize program but i don't think it can output folder contents to an editable doc - does have some other useful functions though which i will use :)

Was hoping to avoid command prompt as some of my folders are 8-9 directories deep! Maybe i should just tidy up my folder structures before looking to print off contents! :p

Cheers

Sounds like you need total commander, it's a gui file manager with a command line for the best of both worlds :)

Trooper, you legend!! :) That is exactly what I was looking for. It allows me to copy exact folder contents to text file and modify/ print as required. Thanks a lot. (It works too - just tried it!)

Thanks to everyone else too for suggestions :)
