How do I install Linux driver on the Pandora?

Today I bought the Linksys wireless adapter AC580 model AE6000 for my windows laptop.  It works great there.  But I would like to try and see if it works on the Pandora so I plugged it in but nothing happen.  So I guess this thing cannot just be plugged and played like the Edimax Wifi dongle Ed sells.  I did some googling and found that the AC580 has a chipset MT7610U from MediaTek (http://wikidevi.com/wiki/Linksys_AE6000).  On this page, I downloaded the Linux driver for this dongle.  The question is how do I install this on the Pandora.  The file is attached.

Thanks advance for any help.

To test, anywhere.

sudo insmod mt7650u_sta.ko

You may have to enable wifi first.

Check dmesg and report if things doesn't work.
 
Tried it.  Didn't work.  Here's what I did.  See if I get this right:

  1. Download the mt7650u_sta.ko, put it on one of the SD cards in the Pandora (psd2)
  2. Enable WiFi (did that but why?  My Linksys dongle is inserted into the USB host, so what does enabling Wifi has to do with this?)
  3. Open terminal and sudo /media/psd2/mt7650u_sta.ko
  4. Enter the required password.  After this I disabled WiFi to see if the Linksys dongle works, but no it doesn't work.
  5. dmesg it and the output is shown below.

If you did it the way in your post it's wrong. you need to : sudo insmod mt7650u_sta.ko

- Copy file 'RT2870STA.dat' from the archive to directory '/etc/Wireless/RT2870STA/'

- Shutdown internal wifi

- load module as before

- type "sudo ifconfig ra0 inet <your ip address> up"

Ok, so it seems that although the driver is well loaded, the hardware is not usable.

Maybe the firmware is not correctly uploaded into the device.

Usually, dmesg reports something, like "trying to load firmware from /lib/firmware/" .
