I would like to know how to get ScummVM to save, as the Save Game and Load Game options are greyed out in the menu. I've tried different combinations of firmware and versions, as well as multiple SD cards and the menu options are still greyed out. A while back, I had an error that said it couldn't save to sky. something, but I've only received that error a few times. What should I do?

Which game ?

Cause a lot of games have their own save menu.

All of them, the games won't save through their own menu OR ScummVM's menu screen. I set the path to the save folder that's already setup when I download the application. In ScummVM's menu, the "save game" and "load game" options are greyed out, no matter which version or SD card I use. I can use the options menu and the other choices, but can't save or load any save files.

Can you confirm what version of ScummVM you are using and what device your using it on?

I have tested saving on all 3 GPH devices fairly well and noticed no issues. Have you read the wiki pages that detail the controller mappings (and options to bring up engine specific menus etc.)?

  • http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/GP2X
  • http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/GP2XWiz

Additionally, any extra information you can provide would be good. Are other applications saving properly?

I'm using versions 1.40 and 1.50 for Caanoo. As I've mentioned, I've tried multiple SD cards and every game and app saves properly, except for ScummVM. I've tried fresh downloads (from open handhelds, the ScummVM website, and the Caanoo Starter Pack), but still nothing. I've tried the key combination on the virtual keyboard, the regular ScummVM menu which has the Save and Load options greyed out, PLUS the in-game save options do nothing. The same goes for other ScummVM games...

Right, stick to the 1.5.0 release from the ScummVM site as I can't be bothered to try and support older versions of versions from who knows what repos or repackages.

From what your saying it seems like ScummVM is seeing your SD as read only. It would be really handy to know is anything is written to the log files when you try and save, that would indicate something else is going on as it can obviously write to the SD card if it writes to the logs ;).

Paste up the contents of scummvm.stdout.txt and scummvm.stderr.txt that can be found in the folder you placed ScummVM.

Here is STDOUT, STDERR has nothing in the text file. I've checked the attributes for the directory and it's not marked as read-only, so I don't see what the issue is.

Debug: STDOUT and STDERR redirected to text files.
Passing to OSystem::SDL initBackend.
Game ScreenMode = 320*200
GraphicsMode set to NORMAL
Keyboard pack 'vkeybd_default' loaded successfully
User picked target 'sky' (gameid 'sky')...
Looking for a plugin supporting this gameid... Sky
Starting 'Beneath a Steel Sky'
Found BASS version v0.0372 (5097 dnr entries)
