Some dude in Australia has decided to try and make a hoverbike worth having, and seeing the specs and what not it is starting to appeal to me (or at least the 10 year old in me).

He's done quite a bit of work on it but I imagine with the rotors under the centre of gravity that it'd be a little unstable.

Either way it looks cool if nothing else :)

Malloy Hoverbike

The estimated top altitude is 10,000 feet. That's way more than just a "Hover" bike. That's a VTOL flying motorcycle. I would totally ride one of those.

I'd love to see one of these armed with cannons, it'd be a cross between a Harrier and the Mk4 Lawmaster from Judge Dredd :)

Aw crap :( it looked so cool too

Why offer an engine type and replacement tyres then?

not much of a fuel tank, so i doubt you'd get to teh theoretical maximum before falling out the sky XD
I suspect it would be unwise to try, sure. But imagine just zipping down the Highway and, "Great gridlock! No problem I'll just hop over to the nearest side road and continue past the congestion." It apparently has a 30 or 60 Litre tank which provides enough fuel for 290km (174 Miles) range at 80 knots (92 MPH). Not bad I say.

you wouldn't be driving on the road though, the nearest applicable license would be helicopter/pilot license with very low altitude training

probably a bigger obstacle over the range/height is stability, turn it in to a tri/quad rotor and it would be hard to fall off, but lean a little too far off the side on anythign bike shaped and you're upside-down with a mincer above you

I imagine a Sports Pilots License, but in some countries that has a limit to how high you can go, also, I imagine parachute would become a mandatory safety device, and temperature, wind and air pressure would become a bit of an issue the higher you go.

The DVLA will have a field day with this, would you have to pay road tax? Just a thought.

When I read this thread title, I thought it was about sci-fi.

Then I realized it was about something real. WANT.

Sigh, such is life.

I do wonder what'll become of this one, though, since I just saw the thing floating off the ground....
